Biden opposes Post-Brexit Irish Border

I a sure you are being facetious but The International Fund for Ireland (IFI), established by the British and Irish governments in 1986, provides funding for projects to sustain the peace process and to generate cross-community engagement and economic opportunity in Northern Ireland (the United Kingdom) and the border counties of Ireland. The U.S. government has contributed more than $544 million to the IFI since its establishment.

I also believe the US is Ireland’s second biggest trade partner in terms of imports to Ireland and no 1 for Irish exports. In terms of history the ties are massive and too long to list.
I'm not I was looking for some education fella. It's always perplexed me. Thanks for the info.

So to confirm are you saying that everybody missed this now most basic of issues?

It wasn't mentioned because the goal posts moved after the referendum.

The onus was on vote leave to provide due diligence to the effects of its campaign. Unfortunately "project fear" was all they could manage alongside the easiest deal in history.

One could say that it wasn't very well thought through.

It really gets to you that the council estates did not toff their cap to you and decided their own future.

Give Brexit at least 5 years, after all we were in the EU since the early 70's. during that period we lost the coal mines, steel making, ship building, most of the chemical plants, the clothing factories In that referendum I voted to join, but what we have now is not even close to that we joined.
I don't think losing those had much to do with the EU, more globalisation

I must admit, Brexit does look to have been a dreadful mistake. I'm afraid I was taken in by some convincing liars who knew how to play people and tell us what we wanted to hear, trusting our emotions would overpower reason, especially since it fed into an unchallenged narrative spun for decades as well as a basic tribal distrust of others, which is a trait seen in Conservatives in particular. Not a bad instinct a lot of the time, but I should have exercised some better judgement in this case, given the importance of the decision, and actually looked into matters in more detail. But I was lazy, biased and the media didn't understand much either, so did a poor job holding the brexit talking heads to account. I suppose I should have paused for thought when my side was telling us ignoring experts was a good idea. I mean, when has that EVER been a good idea?!

All I can do now is actually put some extra effort in to lessen the impact on all those I helped inflict this on and campaign to at least get us back in the Single Market, which was in fact what was promised and what most people wanted, so a proper exercise of democracy.

If there is no deal in December, negotiations will have to be on a completely different basis when they restart in January.

The French put in a practice run yesterday on what happens on 1 January leading to 5 mile lorry queue in Kent.

Well, it's taken some time, but fair play to you. (y)

Thanks for your honesty Cooper. What a bloody mess.

You would expect negotiations would continue next year and bit by bit we will end up with closer ties. We are in for some tough times for a while though. I just can't see either major party suggesting full membership again in 4 years as the tories will undoubtedly look to deflect blame to other matters.

It's a bit of a mess.

I did read last week, though doubt there is much in it, that the EU were preparing to stop negotiations for 6 months, subsidise industries such as fishing and teach the uk government how to play chicken.

To sum up job losses before Brexit is UK problem after Brexit, seems reasonable.
As for not wanting peace in Ireland Jam you are better than that.

No gloating from me. I just don't know how we can rescue anything resembling a good trade deal and more importantly a harmonious relationship with other European nations. But fair play to you anyway 👍
