Biden opposes Post-Brexit Irish Border

It's confusing being on the left these days; Blair is bad because he won elections, Corbyn is good because he didn't, Amazon is bad because it's creating jobs but Nissan is good because it's threatening to close, tax avoidance is a good thing as long as you open a garden fate, my mam inside the Pearly Gates has her head spinning

I'm no fan of Brexit nor Johnson and his cohorts, but nobody in the British Govt wants bother again, NI dont want problems or Eire. Brexit is here the Irish economy is goosed without us too.

I would imagine we get a deal now and we can all get on with life. Biden is just speaking to people who are using a reply for sensationalism.
Ticker ; the truth is once we get this 'hard brexit' deal versus a no-deal brexit it'll spell the premature end for numerous manufacturing sites within the UK especially the car industry because just in time supply chains will be a thing of the past and this idiotic tory government just do not care. The care about the little nationalistic englander and his flag waving cronies who have separated us from our largest trading partner.
I really do want this to go ti ts up because the ideological right of the Tories are playing poker and lost with millions of jobs and livelihoods because they despise the EU for some reason unknown to most of us. The more wrong this goes the quicker this government will collapse.
I want 30 mile traffic jams. I really do....its the only way to show these idiots what they have done...because the Tories will dodge and weave all the closures coming as a result of this hard brexit and look to lay blame on the pandemic.

Wow.
I don’t want anybody to suffer, no matter which way they voted, and I want Brexit to be a huge success to prove all us doubters wrong (and I’m most definitely one of them).
Because that’s what is best for all of us.

I cannot get my head around how anybody would want it to be such a disaster, especially given it’ll be the poorest, most vulnerable in society, many of whom are guilty of nothing more than having been manipulated, that will suffer the most.
That’s just really bitter and twisted, man.
Don’t be that person.

If that's true why have the tradition manufacturing industries closed during our membership of the EU.

My mum was made redundant from Clothes and electrical factories.

My issue is with the Tories and their lies to the ordinary hard working people of this country

This government is an authoritarian government in the same way Trump was and hand out contracts for mates and keep the rest in their place
If we don’t oppose this and expose the lies being told they’ll keep going and it’ll get worse.
Why isn’t the PM talking about the ‘oven ready’ deal they sold to the British people ?
His complete strategy to get Brexit done was on the premise (lie) that the deal was done and we just needed to vote these lovely Tories in again to deliver this great deal.
Utter lie and Johnson should be in prison.

And the extra 350m a week extra for the NHS
I’ll never forget that. Hope you don’t too.
I’ll never make an apology for wanting evil ideology to prosper at the expense of ordinary citizens

If the EU is at fault for closing down our manufacturing industry (spoiler alert - it wasn't) I'd like to hear why Germany has done so well when they have been in it for a lot longer than we were.
Exactly. We lost a lot of industry due to our own country performing badly. They still build ships in Germany.

Exactly, narrow minded idiots just lazy nationalists blaming the EU for all their ills.
Tories = Nationalists extreme right wing = authoritarian rule keeping people with the least firmly in their place

It really gets to you that the council estates did not toff their cap to you and decided their own future.

Give Brexit at least 5 years, after all we were in the EU since the early 70's. during that period we lost the coal mines, steel making, ship building, most of the chemical plants, the clothing factories In that referendum I voted to join, but what we have now is not even close to that we joined.
You must have had a blow to the head if you think Europe is responsible for the systematic dismantlement of coal, steel, ship building etc etc in the UK.

Try the successive incompetent governments of both parties who were/are more interested in propping up failed and failing financial institutes and the "soft" economy in the South of England , than they ever were about maintaining or growing the UK manufacturing base, which just so happened to be based elsewhere than the south.

Leaving the Euro common market will NOT bring any of that stuff back. Its far too late and is almost certainly gone forever on the scale we once knew and depended on. We are left to pick up the scraps off the table and rejoice that we might open a free trade zone, or incentiveise Amazon to open up another sodding warehouse in Darlo or Billingham with the fake promise of 3000 jobs. (2999 of which will be zero hour contract, seasonal contract or minimum wage)

But the Brexiteers got what they wanted so everything is hunky dory right? I love my blue passport me like.

Exactly this.

Getting back to the original topic of the post - you can’t have Brexit without:

A- breaking the Good Friday Agreement
Or
B- Annexing Northern Ireland

The level of ignorance from Boris Johnson and other Leavers on this basic fact is a an absolute disgrace. Joe Biden is absolutely right to hold them to account over it.

It is headed for a complete clusterfukk. Whether I want it to or not. I would prefer to be proven wrong, that it will be a runaway success. But all I see is broken promises and lies. So yes in a way it might be preferable that it goes completely titsup very quickly and the Government collapses. Supermarket shelves empty, the M2 a car park full of lorries and the hedgerows of Kent a truckers toilet. I can see no possibility of a positive outcome, what I can see is Brexiteers transferring blame onto COVID, or Remainers or anyone or anything else other than the undisputable truth that they have been made to look like mugs. Turkeys ramming pork and sage up their own arrses.

Why do America have such an interest in Ireland? Ain't no oil there last time I checked or evil dictators.

I a sure you are being facetious but The International Fund for Ireland (IFI), established by the British and Irish governments in 1986, provides funding for projects to sustain the peace process and to generate cross-community engagement and economic opportunity in Northern Ireland (the United Kingdom) and the border counties of Ireland. The U.S. government has contributed more than $544 million to the IFI since its establishment.

I also believe the US is Ireland’s second biggest trade partner in terms of imports to Ireland and no 1 for Irish exports. In terms of history the ties are massive and too long to list.

At no point during the Brexit referendum was the Good Friday Agreement mentioned, let alone in doubt.

That it was so easily overlooked by vote leave shows the staggering incompetence and willful negligence of those leading it.

Biden is protecting the interests of the 33 million US citizens that identify as Irish, it is a massive issue in America. Now that leave's Trump shield has gone, we should be concerned about the impact on the GFA and stability of Northern Ireland that Brexit will bring.

Alienating us from EU member states as well as the United States as trading partners certainly was not in the vote leave version of a brighter future.
