Best live album ever recorded.

The Beatles - Please Please Me .... although officially it's their 1st studio album - in theory it could be classified as a live album as it was recorded in 1 day

ELP - Pictures at an Exhibition (think it might be Newcastle)
U2 - Live at Red Rocks

Not a fan of either band but both good albums

Slade Alive 1972.
If you want blood ,Ac~Dc.
Ride Out The James Gang.
Hard Rain Dylan.
The Skiffle Sessions Live in Belfast Lonnie Donnegan, Van Morrison,Chris Barber.
Made in Japan Deep Purple.
When I first started playing drums my first teacher was an old guy who used to play in the Lonnie Donegan Skiffle group.

Agree with post for Slade Alive by Ticker_tape. Here is a few I have just thought of as we seem to be including things done on TV but released as albums later.

REM Unplugged 1991
REM Unplugged 2001
Neil Young Unplugged is fantastic.
Also this REM show which was recorded for Jools Hollands Later in 1998 and was released later on the superb REM at THE BBC box set.

I'd also go with Free Live. Honourable shout outs for Christmas at The Patti (Man's Christmas party in Wales, 1972 ish) and from the same stable, "Greasy Truckers". Both, I'm pleased to say, in my collection. I've also got a nostalgic warm feeling for Genesis Live. This thread seems to show that the Live Album's heyday was in the Seventies/Eighties.

For me it's hard to beat the "Albert Hall" 1966 Dylan bootleg. The contrast between the two "halves" is incredible (albeit apparently chemically fuelled).

The intensity of the electric side is unparalleled in my opinion - Dylan at his antagonistic best and the band absolutely on fire.

I have those as well. Peter Gabriel was apparently extremely unhappy about Genesis Live being released - he didn't think the quality was good enough.

I didn't know that. I just remember it being really well-reviewed at the time. As far as quality goes, I suppose I didn't notice because I was listening to it aged 16 through a crappy budget record player. Everything sounded terrible on that.
