Best Album from Manc

Maybe to you, but there are to me.

The middle tracks are nowhere near as good as the start and the end, and the original release didn't have fools gold either.
As with most topics we’ll have to agree to disagree, and the original release is the only release

Like others I can't answer this. Too much quality and variety.

The Stone Roses debut will always be up there, along with Pills and thrills and bellyaches.
It does beg the question, is there something in the water in Manchester??
Why haven’t similar sized cities (Leeds, Birmingham, Sheffield etc) produced such creativity??🤔

I think they have, to an extent, but few have caught the zeitgeist in the same way as the Manchester bands. They do have a knack for laying the foundations of emerging scenes.

Leeds had a pretty strong post-punk scene (Gang of Four etc) but not much else. Ditto Birmingham with Swell Maps and a few others. Obviously Ska has its roots in the West Mids and I believe it's a big player in the metal scene?

As for my hometown of Sheffield, where would we be without the new romantics? :) Some "boys with guitars" stuff recently as well but only the Arctic Monkeys who burst through at a national level really. Apologies in advance to any Millburn fans out there.

Nah, good car music, in the background. To me no different to Elton John.
I think Elton John manages to pip Simply Red for number of absolute bangers produced. Rocket Man alone wipe the floor with any of the Simply Red stuff.. add in Tiny Dancer and it's not even a conversation to be had.

The Return of the Durutti Column is a great shout for best Album to come out of Manchester..

has to be The Queen is Dead from The Smiths tho.. right? surely?

Sheffield? You've jsut dissed the human league, tsk!

Seriously though I think it's the culture is so intertwined with music up there. It produces such good bands because everyone listens to so much music, it ends up influencing and inspiring to a better extent than other places. Glasgow and London have similar scens but neither seem to produce quite as broad a range of quality artists.

Genuine, not tongue in cheek quesiton:

Are we considering Take that a Manchester band? Yes they are pure, manufactured pop but they are mainly Manc and, pretty successful.

Liverpool have done alright!

Why is the North West a bigger hotbed of music talent than the North East?
