Best 500 Albums - Rolling Stone Magazine

Having at long last subscribed to Spotify, I have decided to use this last part of lockdown to listen to all the Rolling Stone magazines best 500 albums one by one, to see if there are any classics or gems that I have missed out on. Starting at 500, I am down to no. 458. Mixed bag so far. Some albums are OK, and others I have not been able to cope with more than a couple of tracks.

But no. 458 is "Southeastern" by Jason Isbell. Stunning. Brilliant album. Chilled out county music.

I assume that by the time I get the the top 50, the albums will be a lot more familiar - Beatles, Radiohead, Queen etc. But I am enjoying the journey so far.

Full of similar lists (the ones grouped by publication - mojo, uncut etc - are good).

Hours of listening pleasure.

I could probably spend all day salivating over some of the fantastic albums on that list, and saying yay or nay to their positions, but Blondies Parallel lines at 146!!!!!! ..should be top 50 in my book.

Listen to number 28 with the wife and thank me later. Superb night time album.

Number two should be number one and there is no way that on god's green earth that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West, whilst it is a brilliant musical journey is better than Jay Z's The Blueprint or Nas's Illmatic but these lists are always great for debate.

Good to see Rumours by Fleetwood Mac at 7. Probably one of my all time favourite albums that I'll never get sick of listening to. Never Going Back Again isn't your typical song to be played at a funeral but I want it playing at mine when I'm on my way into the furnace. Love that song.

I've never felt that that music is a competition, so not worried what is number 500 or what is number 1, and that list has some great albums on it and plenty that I've never heard so need to listen to.

Too late, lockdown finished months ago. A good way to spend the summer in the garden though.
No for me unfortunately. 10yo Son told to stay home due to a posative test in his class, as are many school year groups around here. My work is paranoid and want me to work from home for 10 days becuase of this, even if according to the letter of the law I could go in, I think.....

WFH is the new normal anyway.

Anyway, yes some pretty bad albums, but a few good ones. Bo Diddley at 455 is my next one to listen to, probably on Monday. I would skip it, but as an owner of a Gretsch guitar, I feel duty bound to listen to it!

Absolutely hate these lists. Same goes for those crappy 'list' TV shows where z-list celebs bang on about someone's idea of the 100 best sitcoms or stand ups or whatever of all time. All a load of sh1te.

How can 500 albums ALL be a load of sh1te? I have not even listened to loads of them, but many fo them are excellent.
