I see he's in a spat with the England management. He's hit back via 'sources' today that the reason he won't play for england under the current management is that he doesn't get picked to start. He had a dressing down off the assistant manager and he hasn't got into the rhythm of going for international duty whatever that means.

So question above...

Sounds like a spoilt brat tbh. No one has a divine right to play and he is being incredibly disrespectful to him team mates. I'd hope whoever takes over after GS looks at his attitude and doesn't pick him either or its sending out a terrible message to younger players.

We don't know his reasons, or the whole story, but I personally find it hard to believe Southgate or Holland have treated him poorly.
I suspect the mystical Benjamin is a little highly strung.

I really like Arsenal and want them to win the league and CL, but while White is a good Arsenal player he is not as good as Walker. I think a fit James may also be better too.
I don't rate TAA higher as RB, but White for me would be No3.
Given James, TAA and Trippier are all injured, the forthcoming fixtures are attractive and there is a Euros tournament in summer, I can't get my mind around not wanting to play.
But I'm not in White's mind.

He wouldn't spit his dummy out like this at club level, so why he thinks its appropriate to do it at international level, where representing your country is meant to be an honour, is beyond me.

He shouldn't be picked ever again, could any manager in the future trust him not to act like a child if he isnt picked once selected in a squad. To$$er

Is he spitting his dummy out, or just saying "no, you're alright, carry on without me"?

The reactions to that seem more like dummy spitting to me.

The bit that shows his character to me is that he didnt have the gonads to tell Southgate himself that he didnt want to be selected he had Edu do it for him, I mean thats just pathetic.

Yes, that's a fair point, if I felt aggrieved I'd want to have my say. Nothing ever gets resolved by refusing to speak, in fact internalizing just creates resentment and that can impact other parts of your life and job.

There's obviously something going on and we haven't had the full story. Maybe Southgate hasn't had the full story either because I wouldn't think Southgate is the sort of person to pretend there is no problem and leave the blame with White. He left in the middle of the World Cup and I can't believe it is just because he wasn't being picked. He must have an issue with something.

He's a good player but probably not good enough to be first choice right back. I'd have him in consideration for the centre back position rather than full back. We've got a lack of quality there and that's his position really.

I wouldn't pick anyone that doesn't want to be there though no matter how good they are.

I have no objection to players being indifferent to international football. Having said that, I wouldn't pick a player who wasn't fully committed to the cause. For that reason, I wouldn't pick Ben White in the future as his commitment would always be questionable.

There will always be a doubt over his commitment - that's for sure.

There have been quite a few players who haven't liked playing for England. More to do with the culture/cliques I think. Scholes hated it and retired from international football while still in his prime.

White had a big falling out with Foden / Man City didn't he? Wonder if it's more to do with that? Ultimately we don't know.

I get the Scholes thing though, he had 66 caps and was misused/under appreciated and had played in 4 tournaments (i think). Ben white has 4 caps.

Like you say we don't know the inner workings, so could be a lot more to it, but seems like an over reaction on his part to simply being deemed not first choice.

As others have said - if he doesn't fancy it then he shouldn't be considered.

I don't want to sound like a rabid Telegraph columnist, but playing for your country is an honour and a privilege and if he doesn't show it the sufficient respect then there is no point picking him.
