Ay Caramba!
Just read this. Never knew this was happening.

Funnily enough, we were at the old station cafe in Bellingham, Northumberland just a couple of weeks ago (ex-Border Counties Line), where one of those is currently sitting on the rails. It looks very incongruous next to the weathered old carriage that sits adjacent. The guy running the museum told me it's off to Mexico soon.

Morning Lemmy.

What a lack of foresight, we have those sardine tin "Voyagers" with hardly any luggage space, no leg room and overcrowded sardine tins, when a little investment, upgrading to require H&S standards - the HST`s could continue to provide us with comfort and space, especially for the disabled. ;@((

Absolutely, this. Always hated the narrow new ones since mid/late 2000s when I worked in Derby every week. At the height of Summer, in a packed train, the aircon would regularly not cope with the heat and fail. Horrible memories of cramped 3 hour journeys in sauna conditions in a narrow train carriage with non-opening windows.

Whenever I travel up to the NE, I avoid Cross-Country like the plague. I hate those train-sets: dirty, slow, crowded, smelly, no luggage room, filthy toilets, cramped, 5 coaches for hundreds of miles,....I use the East Coast Main Line Azumas - even if it takes a bit longer. Our "Inter-City" railways are a disgreace compared to our European "partners"!

HSTs in their Castle Class guise are still doing Plymouth to Penzance...nothing unusual you might think, but they only run with 4 carriages.
They'll be withdrawn in the next year or so.

This turned up on my YouTube feed (probably because I've been reading this). Anyway, here are where the retired HST power cars are being stored pending their fate.
