BBC4 effectively shut down

BBC 4 is to cease commissioning new programmes and become an archive-focused channel as part of the ongoing significant cost-cutting drive across the corporation.

BBC4 was perhaps the only thing that could justify paying the licence fee.
Just a matter of time now for the BBC - sad to see a 4 billion pound publicly funded institution about to disappear

“this approach will necessitate a shift away from commissioning a high volume of lower-cost programmes on BBC Four, which are less effective at reaching audiences on the channel and on iPlayer”. They are continuing to try and be populist and have less and less individuality. Local radio is pretty much micro managed now. You can switch on a local station anywhere in the country and have a good idea of the content and maybe even the music being played. Considering independent radio long ago gave up on anything truly original music wise and also providing a local service surely this was the BBC's main card to play and indeed responsibility.
Then again have you noticed BBC 3 is returning though,.

There was a reason BBC3 was take off air. Mainly because it targeted a younger demographic , and they just do not watch TV anymore.
I'm sure there are many youtubers that have more viewers than BBC3 managed

Not sure I see the point of bringing back BBC 3 but effectively killing BBC 4

Bringing back BBC3 is a shambles, the programming was horrendous when it was on air and the odd thing that makes it onto BBC1 after the news is utter garbage.

hopefully BBC4 keeps its current crop of repeats as some are still good to watch... TOPT2 and the history stuff are excellent.

Did you read the bit of the article that cited the number of people watching BBC during lockdown. It is that level of service that everyone including BBC management need to think about, I think.

Could save a few bob on binning programs like Strictly Come Dancing and paying mega money to these has been celebs. Yes I know it popular bur does not justify the money spent on it.

Get rid of all the celebs who just turn up on radio 2 for a last big payday. Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady, Vanessa Phelps, Jonathan Ross to name but a few over the last few years.

Stop having three news personnel for every story. The last two just repeating what the first one said. Or the overseas ones who report without being in the same country as the news they are reporting.
