Barlaser

I've never quite seen what he offers yet - but I would love it if this was the starting point to kick on at Boro

Total don against lower league opposition..

Hopefully he can get up to speed for the top end of the championship.

I still think he is too slow and ponderous.. he’s clever and can pick out a pass.. his movement is decent.. but ffs..

Slow
He was my man of the match last night.
He don’t think he ever gave the ball away.
I wish some people would get off his back.
There is definitely a quality player there.
He reminded me of the way Carrick played.
Give the lad a chance!

He was very good last night. Allowed to look good of course, but it was noticeable that, when they did try to close him down, and pressure him, he just either calmly passed the ball, or made them look silly by going round them. The way I see it, if you have a player that can do that, and who can spot the long pass (and deliver), you make sure that the team is set up to offer him some protection. I was impressed.

I thought Hackney and McGree were very good last night.
Barlaser was neat and tidy is all, against a lower league team and under no pressure because of his colleagues.
He will still feel better after the match.

Good range of passing and honest, lacks a bit in the physical space though. Lacks pace, power, and energy to cover the ground needed at the higher levels of the game.

On the ball he looks after the ball well enough, keeps the ball moving, racks up the passing numbers, but off the ball, I find his positioning to be poor, doesn't get on the passing lines and protect his defence enough, doesn't pressure the ball at the right time.

His glass ceiling is likely to be a bottom end champ side, as a starter, fine for a squad player for us though. I will be surprised if he breaks through into the team, particularly when we get Bangura fit at LB and have O'Brien as another midfield option.

I didn't say he didn't play well last night.. infact I've said he is an absolute don against lower league opposition. there is a quality player there.. but he is physically and mentally slow.
reaction times, decision making.. the huge delay in between receiving the ball and playing the ball.

I bet he scores really high on the stats table.. percentage pass completion will be through the roof.

I know, that's my point - he finished high up the table having only played until January for Rotherham and then warming the bench for us. So he obviously has something that works in this league.
I believe that quite a few were from dead balls, if he isn't our dead ball specialist, and we don't have the players to attack corners and free kicks, then he is unlikely to wrack those numbers up here.

We need mobile, clever, progressive, and quick thinking CMs, that protect the ball, pass it and move. He can do half of that, but he moves it a little too slow for it to be effective. He is better with space to play more mid/long passes, than popping 5-15 yard passes against a packed defence.

Totally irrelevant, my point is to those who are pointing out it was against League 2 opposition - my point is that he's also done it against Championship teams as proved by last seasons stats.
for Rotherham

Home - Huddersfield 1 (2-1 win)
Away - Coventry 1 (2-2 draw)
