Barlaser

Easily his best performance today in a Boro shirt that I have witnessed, thought he was unlucky to be subbed if not injured.

I think the whole team's resurgence, but that of Barlaser in particular proves once again the overwhelming impact of confidence in football. it could be a good time to attempt the rehabilitation of Silvera too, as his must've been shot after the last couple of appearances he made.

What I like about the Hackney, Barlaser midfield is that both players have that head-up elegance that Carrick himself had, but yesterday at any rate, neither was lacking in terms of ball-winning or closing down. Barlaser almost seems to have acquired an extra yard of pace from somewhere. Howson is still a factor. of course, but it now feels as if Barlaser can be relied upon

Match fitness.

Thankfully it's becoming clear to the doubters that he is a good player. He is the hub of the wheel. He creates space for himself and those around him. Hackney really benefits. Countless times yesterday Hackney would play a wall pass to him, dart forward and have the ball returned to his feet at the right pace for him to drive on. A simple thing, but he does it so well. The weakness in his play yesterday was his delivery of corners, which he should have figured early on, had to be well away from Ruddy ... at least so that Ruddy would have to move to intercept the cross.

It was irritating to read all the churlish criticism after a handful of appearances and was confident he would eventually prove his value. Pleased for him and for us.
Not sure the criticism was unfair, it’s only the last month that he’s done well. Nobody said he was a poor footballer just that so far he had shown nothing, which he hadn’t. He’s playing well right now, long may it continue. A much better example of churlish criticism would be Rogers who was likened to a pub player

it’s the same whoever it is to be honest, it has been for as long as I remember. Two or three games and it’s ’not good enough’ ‘terrible signing’ etc. gets a little tedious.
I haven’t seen anyone say terrible signing for Barlaser though, just that he hadn’t really done enough in previous appearances. Yes we have our boo boys but the crowd and fans have been pretty soft on Dan

I have been critical of him in the past but thought that was his best game in a Boro shirt today. As noted above lets see if he can do it over the next 10 games. Saying that though you would expect Howson to be hoping for a game against his former club on Tuesday.

I was possibly being unfair, I just get fed up of the negativity sometimes. For instance, I remember constantly defending McGree and lots of other players.

Nobody?? I suspect if I went back over threads Ill pick a few out not that I am going to. I know they were written. I don't want to spotlight any individual who made criticisms and some comments were probably justified I feel strongly that some people were prepared to write him off very quickly. Zoo was right in what he said.

No I haven’t seen anybody say he was a poor footballer. There has been fair criticism of his previous performances and of his out of possession contribution and that’s fair but I think everyone can see that he’s a good passer

Very happy to take your word that you haven't but I can assure you there were. He is an excellent distributor of the ball.
