I don't think anyone is writing him off completely but many have expressed their concern that since joining the club half a year ago he has shown very little so far.
I appreciate as you have said it is not a huge amounts of minutes, but he has been given chances to start and has thus far failed to take them. Even in cameos he hasn't shown the necessary passing ability or drive that he is going to stamp his authority on a game. Even in short appearances you can get an idea of whether he looks a player or not. At the moment he hasn't looked like one and far from being 'juvenile', people have just called it as they've seen it with an honest appraisal. Many have said similar and I'd hazard a guess more of the fan base are in the underwhelmed camp than, he's not been given a fair crack of the whip yet camp.
I get the comparisons to Forshaw where he just couldn't get in the team, but even in cameos Forshaw looked neat and tidy in possession and confident on the ball, whilst Barlaser has looked sloppy in possession and lacking in belief in his cameos.
Nevertheless, I think we all want the lad to succeed and it's great to here he played really well tonight. Hopefully from the small beginnings of a decent performance against Huddersfield's second string he can grow in confidence, improve, and show he's worthy of a regular starting slot. He'd certainly save us a load of cash if he can do that and be the long term Howson replacement.
