Based on what we've seen over the past few months and in particular today's performance can anyone say this guy is Howson's replacement? I'm not too sure if he lacks confidence or he's just not up to it, but certainly he looked the weakest player on the pitch today on both sides. Stray passes, poor tackles, lack of authority, it wasn't very encouraging -- I dare say he'll not make the grade at the Boro with performances like that. He just comes over as a support player rather than a leader which is what we're looking for in that CM role. Perhaps he might get better with more games but Carrick can't be impressed on what he saw today. Actually I was surprised Payero wasn't given a chance which maybe indicates that he's on his way out.
 
I wonder whether or not it is a confidence thing. I think in football so much of it at the professional level is mindset.

He didn’t have a good game today but I didn’t think anyone was outstanding. The goalkeeper and the centre backs played well though.
 
Very disappointing. When we signed him I thought he was going to be an ideal fit but he is just a nothing player for me. Slow and clumsy on the ball.

I wonder would Rotherham take him back. He was hugely popular there.

Even if we just get our money back I'd be happy.

People being saying this for as while though, he was pooir last season when he came on. I would lovew it if he improves but no evidence of it so far

Stop being so sensible. You'd have thought some of our fans would have learnt from Chuba, who was almost universally written off on here.
He was excellent at Rotherham including in the Championship, he's not shown his best form for us yet but maybe judge him after a run of a few starts.
 
Good stats but not seen much from him. I think it was his the first time he came on as sun he made a few decent passes. Today he was either backwards or to a white shirt. Night and day when Howson came on, head up driving forward.

Carrick needs to set a clear expectation of him. If he cannot meet it then 👋
 
I love his positivity and willingness to get on the ball but he gives the ball away needlessly far too often for a side wanting promotion.
 
Been a dead weight and passenger in every game I’ve seen him play.

His performance against Rotherham last year was borderline embarrassing
