Bangura looks so much quicker and sharper than Engel

I wonder how Coulson is feeling these days? Still baffles me why he came back.
Yeah - it's bizarre. By my reckoning he is now 5th choice LB behind the main two, and also behind 2 players out of position. I wonder what he makes of this? I have nothing against him, but surely he should have been let go to get 1st team football elsewhere. He would have found a club easily enough in League 1 or Scotland I would guess.

Perhaps he's on a healthy contract, and doesn't want to be away from home anymore ?

Far better players than him have sat on the sidelines until their contract is up.

Giles and Akpom benefited from our style of play last season. It is no coincidence that we got so many goals and assists. I don't think it is entirely down to Akpom, nor Giles. More the way we are set up.

I have heard a few folks say that we don't carry the goal threat we did last season, despite outscoring lasy years team to-date. Will that continue? I don't know, but I suspect we will be on-par with last seasons goal tally.

I say this because I think if you ignore Giles ability to cross the ball, he was a pretty poor lb. He looked good because of the way we play and it would be no surprise if either Engel or Bangura, assuming we settle on one or the other, will get a similar level of assists as Giles.

I think that the majority here on FlyMe, agree that we have a pretty good squad of players at Boro now, who have skill and age on the their side to progress and do great things. The big trick for MC is to keep them all happy when not picked.

What do our recruitment team think they're playing at?

Bringing in 2 decent players for one position?!?! Disgraceful.

The squad is decent. We do lack some raw firepower in my opinion. OK, we were spoiled last season, when we scored goals with abandon that I've never seen before.
However, I'm torn between wanting a new striker and wanting Forss to get more game time.

Forss will get game time when he’s fit. Key word being when as he’s prone to injuries. Imagine he won’t be used as striker though, Carrick clearly sees him as right sided forward.

When you say outscored last year's team to date then doesn't that just pretty much include the time where we were rubbish and had to sack our manager? We then had an incredible run and scored goals for fun for the rest of the season. We should be outscoring pre-Carrick but are we anywhere near the rate we were scoring after Carrick?

Full season last year we scored 84 goals in 46 games (1.83 goals per game). This season we have scored 19 goals in 14 games (1.36 goals per game). We carry nowhere near the same goal threat as last season. We're also conceding more per game (1.43 vs 1.22).

I'm glad you have the numbers because I haven't see the goal threat or firepower we had towards the end of last season.

Feel there is something missing between the defensive midfield and forwards still.

Not on the money he gets here I would imagine.

This year includes the time we were crap under Carrick too...

It's great to see both of their development. Hope them competing against each other for 1 spot drives them on more. I do think Coulson be sold in January though

Think OP is being a bit harsh, they have different qualities.

I think the one big advantage Bangura has his his acceleration which is a useful asset for a full back but both offer attacking threat.

I think they may end up being used in a "horses for courses" fashion and who plays depends on who they are likely opposite in the game.

I think here looked powerful and fast. But I also felt he looked quite out of control at times. Exciting to have options that appear to offer something different!
Thats what I thought very raw. Never seemed in control of the ball. I think in the league he would be targeted as a weakness. Will give away lots of free kicks.

Quite exciting but he needs alot of coaching.

Yes but there was a significant change that caused the uptick in form which we are not going to get this year. We are going to continue with the same manager and same players so it is far more likely that our current scoring rate will continue than it would be to change to last years (when we had a much stronger squad of players).

I agree we need to score more.

I think those stats are a little misleading though. Our first 7 matches were a disaster. Our last 7 even better than last season. Ultimately we'll finish between the 2, but I'd guess it will be closer to the last 7 than the first 7, not simply the 2 averaged out.

What concerns me is our current ineffectual first half performances. I reckon we've scored 7 first half goals compared to 24 second half goals in all competitions. Even more pronounced a difference in the league
