Just watching it for the third time, but it's been a few years since I last did. I hadn't realised how many famous actors have bit parts. Michael Fassbender, Stephen Graham , James McAvoy, Andrew Scott, Tom Hardy, Simon Pegg
Couldn't get that cast together again without spending big!

And if you haven't yet watched it, it's well worth it. Nearly 20 years old now!

I've read the book twice too :)
And been To Carentan/St Mere Eglise etc. with my British Dad who landed on Gold, D Day. We also tracked the Market garden route, so it's all quite poignant for me

Last Christmas we visited Saint Mere Eglise and stayed in a cottage owned by the people who run the local art gallery. On the walls was pictures of the real 'Band of Brother' accompanied by some of their autographs.

There was also a dead German's gloves, belt buckles and American Airborne parachute clips.

Around the cottage they had been a major battle.

It was ideally situated for anyone who likes their history.

It’s an incredible series whereas the Pacific is pretty forgettable.

I remember hearing years ago that Hanks and Spielberg were meant to be doing a third series based on the bomber crews but haven’t heard anything for a while.

The Pacific is equally as good. They’re not really comparable so don’t know why people have to choose one or the other. If you read the books Helmet for my Pillow and With the Old Breed and watch the series again, you might appreciate it and what they went through a bit more.

On a side note, it finally looks like Masters of the Air might be getting some traction so we could see the next Spielberg/Hanks WW2 miniseries at some point in the next few years.

Arguably one of the best limited run series ever. I loved the way they actually have the real hero's involved👍

The production value and special effects still stand up. Also as stated what a cast of up and coming actors they had. I imagine the budget was stunning at the time for a TV series.

I have watched many documentarys about the events. They fully back up the horror these blokes went through and most teenagers😕.

The episode that always horrified me is the one set in the forests of Bastogne in Belgium (episode 6 I think). Imagine spending months getting fired at every day whilst living in a fox hole in - 5 and lower temperatures? They were wearing nothing but cotton trousers and thin army jackets (the type you wear for fashion these days).

I watched a metal detecting program where they were in the forest looking for relics. Every single sweep of the detector went off due to almost every square inch having metal shrapnel in the ground and also trees. You'd wonder how anyone lived through it.

The 101st are still going strong. They did some mint stuff in Iraq and Afghanistan. Absolute hero's👍

I must watch Pacific. I tried a couple of episodes a while back and couldn't get in to it. Probably just because of unfair comparisons to BOB. I'm going to go back to that

I just never got hooked by The Pacific like I did Band Of Brothers, not sure why, maybe pacing or characters. I think maybe they went for the more psychological impact of war with lots of sitting around and talking whereas BoB had that impact but was also more in your face action.

Hopefully we see something from Masters Of The Air but it’s been a few years since it was even first mentioned so not sure if it will ever happen. Hanks is obviously passionate about this part of history, I watched Greyhound the other day, it’s ok if a little limited story wise, it’s entertaining but they did well to make a whole movie out of one convoy crossing.

My late Grandad landed on Gold beach D-Day+1. He was a part of the clean up crew.
Band of Brothers is an incredible piece of movie making. The Pacific is also great.

Best series I've ever seen, closely followed by Breaking Bad.

BoB is one of those series I could watch over and over without getting bored of it. You couldn't imagine the mental and physical strength of those guys.

Early on, The Pacific has a few dead episodes .. the Melbourne (?) one, Episode 3 I think, just sucks the life of out me .. but I think from episode 4 or 5 onwards it gets quite good.

I wish I'd never seen it so I could watch it again from the beginning, excellent viewing, saving private Ryan is another
