Band of Brothers

Subject of war orientated films and TV has anybody seen Tears of the Sun? Superb film and for me personally one of Bruce Willis' best performances.

Just read this about Saving Private Ryan. I knew Ramelle didn't exist but I didn't realise the town had been recreated in a film studio in England and was used again Band of Brothers:

Ramelle doesn’t exist
The final battle of the movie takes place in the town called Ramelle and it is the only fictional town in the movie.

All the other locations used are real and were actual the objectives during the D-Day invasion. Ramelle, that includes the river, was created from scratch in a massive a studio in England, which was later used and expanded during the filming of the HBO hit series “Band of Brothers”.

Absolutely brilliant TV - watched it again recently.

We whinge about lockdown and wearing masks but BOB reminds us what these young (and not so young) lads sacrificed for their respective countries. Puts it in perspective really.

Tremendous series, brilliantly filmed and sensitively written. Never felt the same empathy with Pacific and lost interest after a few episodes.
Generally speaking though, anything in this genre that Hanks has had a hand in, is must-see viewing imho.

Love Band of Brothers and have been fortunate enough to spend time in Normandy with some veterans. If anybody wants another good WW2 series I highly recommend 'The Heroes' about operation Jaywick. Although much older, it is very good and about 3 and a half hours long. Don't let the fact that Jason Donovan is in it put you off.
