Back in Middlesbrough

Basically mate most of the locals vote Labour who for 60 years plus have done Jack **** for our town. oh and we have let the ward of Gresham become a third world Ghetto. However there are plenty of cash only takeaways, vape shops and Turkish barbers and the one positive is that there are loads of nice spice shops which are cheap.

It's all the fault of the previous mayor. Now we've got the inspirational leadership of, er, whatisname, everything's going to be fine.

Red Roar is over there mate ---------->

middlesbrough could take note from Stockton and start by knocking down 2 of the shopping centres and consolidating the shops in 1 to avoid empty units. then create some sort of massive green space

Get rid of Cleveland centre, but keep Linthorpe road pedestrianised… shops / bars restaurants on one side of the road (plus captain cook square) and open park the other side. Lovely.

I believe the council actually own Cleveland centre now, so it’s doable

If you had posted that there were plenty of empty shop units I`d be agreeing with you, but to say it`s bad because we have shops that are open, paying taxes, employing people and providing services to people is not right.

If it`s the type of shop that is your complaint please tell us what shops you would like to see?

A lot of big business has gone online, but hopefully those big shops that are now going to charge for returns we may see more footfall in the high street and the potential return of the big shops?

The shopping centre buildings need to be repurposed rather than demolished.
It has started with food and leisure at Captain Cooks square.
Elsewhere could be used for health and welfare, education, training etc.
Upper floors used for living if practical.

i imagine when you start to look at the structural condition of the centres (just look up as you walk down linthorpe road) that it would end up a money pit to convert these to anything meaningful.

Someone, usually you keeps posting this nonsense.

To correct your facts, Labour have been in charge of Middlesbrough for 5 years out of the last 22, Dave Budd 4 years and Chris Cooke 1 year, the rest of the time it was ran by independent mayors (Preston 4 years and Ray Mallon 12) out of the 5 years Labour have been in charge we've had a Tory government with an austerity agenda.

The thing that you also appear to be complaining about is the shops that are actually open, rather then the empty buildings, unsure if you would prefer more empty and less open, you don't make that very clear.

Town centres right across the country are struggling, something to so with the internet, maybe we should all stop using it?
