Back in Middlesbrough

Dear me, do we have to have one of these isn't boro rubbish posts every few days?

Which paradise do you live in by the way?

Apologies, I didn’t mean to offend. I love this place, it’s sad to see. Genuinely just an inquiry into what’s going on, I saw the Crown fenced over and doesn’t look like anyone’s working to renovate it.

I live in Liverpool.

Unfortunately too many people like to bury their heads in the sand, has been the case for years, until there is acknowledgement and only small changes the decline will continue.

I know not everyone is happy with it but with look at what they are doing in Stockton, making major changes to completely change the town centre, might not work but at least they have a plan and are doing something rather that nothing

Aye, one of the lads I was out with told me Stockton’s decent these days. I refused to believe it but will have to go and check it out.

Renovation of The Crown will need serious Private investment to renovate and the expense will eye watering.

It’s really sad as I used to Love The Crown but 80% of the building was a dump (upper floors) even when it was open.

Yes, they've literally bulldozed Stockton. If that doesn't improve it nothing will!

Did it have upper floors, other than the DJ booth? (Which I did used to make several visits to most nights).

It was before covid, handful of quirky little micropubs and what not. Many didn't survive.

Last time I was there it was literally a huge pile of rubble, plus the Globe. I do think it might be much better in the future though.

There is a devlopment plan for the Crown but it is part of Middlesbrough Development Corporation, no longer Middlesbrough Council, at this point the plans are confidential.

Ah ok. Yes I definitely never went up there.
I had friends who worked there and even worked a week there but quickly left as they never employed enough bar staff so the busy nights were horrendous. Wasn’t worth the minimum wage at the time!

Upstairs was pretty spooky and very dilapidated.

One Saturday night we had a stoppy back after close and went up on the roof to have a few beers and watch the sun come up.

Really good views of the wider Middlesbrough area. That night / morning always sticks in the memory!
