Ayling

I mean, we're ll entitled to our opinions, but when they're as ridiculous as this, it's probably best not to post them on a public forum - he was superb today
Superb? Everything they created was from Clarke who Ayling couldn’t touch.
Bit of a stretch saying he was superb. He was decent going forward but shocking defensively

He was much better in the second half, but as soon as he got the booking it was game over for him. They got the ball to Clarke every time and Ayling couldn’t do anything. We brought Silvera on but he offered Ayling little or no protection and Clarke turned us around every single time.

I thought he played well.. up until they scored. Clarke skinned him to start off the move that led to the goal and then he had a pretty rough 15 minutes. Clarke seemed to wake up.

I can’t believe people are thinking he played well, I commented on the match thread he was getting skinned by Clarke in the first half. It didn’t improve in the second, he got nowhere near him all game.

Not sure it’s his fault like, Clarke is far too good for this league.

He can’t run any faster that’s not being poor that’s just a fact.

Ayling is no world beater, but is far better than the other full back Engel who is terrible.
Surely to God, Thomas plays next week.
Honestly I don’t know what to make of Engel. Going forward he looks ok, but his defensive abilities are at times schoolyard level. Ok I like his attitude and resilience but he definitely needs to work on a lot of things. Let’s hope he grows in season two.

I thought he did ok, Clarke is a very good left sided attacker, he only looked exposed and vulnerable once Silvera came on, he got no help from him at all.

Ayling shows his professionalism and experience.
He has a footballing brain: thinking ahead and anticipating moves.
On several occasions, he's helped out other players from potentially dangerous, tight situations.
Along with the rest of the squad, he will gel, and they will all improve and develop.

I thought he had a good game except for when Clarke completely sucked him in during the build up to their goal allowing him to basically set their goal up

Not really sure what Engel did wrong today. In fact a lot of our best moves came from his passes. Great ball in for Greenwood that Azaz should have scored from first half. Great ball in to Greenwood in the second half that Greenwood should have scored from.
Their goal, if we want to play with very attacking full backs, it's defensive shape 101 that when a full back is attacking, someone needs to cover for him.
