Atletico Madrid

Can’t understand why they do it? They actually played really well when the actually played football. They’ve got some class players who aren’t being allowed to play. Madness

That Filipe should have been sent off after about 20 mins for his "tackle" on De Bruyne that he got booked for, it should have been his second yellow after his earlier assault on Foden that went unpunished

The atmosphere and the crowd were great proper intimidating, the Athletico players and Simeone were out of order. Surely there will be more punishment to come? You can see Savic, dragging Foden off the pitch, headbutting Sterling and grabbing Grealish by the hair then (I think it's him) spitting in the tunnel. Then you have Felipe's refusal to leave the field when sent off. Constant intimidation of the match officials, etc.

Now is the time to see if UEFA have got any gonads. In particular Savic and Felipe should be facing retrospective action, and possibly Simeone, who in the first instance whipped up a mighty frenzy, then realised it was getting out of control, and then tried to calm it all down, losing the plot completely!
I presume both clubs will end up being punished for bringing the game into disrepute, but that would be really harsh on Man City. Foden was singled out for GBH from the kick off, and the attempted nut job on Sterling was outrageous.

Not sure how you can cite City for "bringing the game into disrepute"? I would say that considering the provocation they were a model of restraint. I'd also say that the referee did a pretty good job of letting the game flow but was perhaps a little slow with yellow cards.

Foden rolling about in pretend agony didn't help
Yeah he is the only player ever to have done that! Given that he had had his head split open earlier (unpunished) I think you could cut him a little slack when kicked in the back of the calf by a player who probably could have been sent off twice already.

Yes, you are right. The tackle on Foden was really good. Maybe Felipe caught him as he followed through - you couldn't tell - but if he did then it wasn't sufficient to cause Foden to roll around like that.

I suppose the red card was right but the ref wasn't really in control from the first whistle. I didn't envy him though - far too much play acting from both teams.

I totally agree with you mate, I was referring more to how UEFA are likely to react. They won’t want to upset a La Liga club without spanking a team from the Premiership. Just my opinion.

It was. But if you watch the follow through he deliberately kicks Foden in the back of the calf with an extended follow through. It was deliberate and disguised but I have no doubt that it was painful. Enough to roll over and over? Well I've always believed if you are REALLY hurt you lie still, thrashing about in "agony" is for the cameras but he was definitely kicked, only Foden knows how painful it was but there was no doubt about the intent and the contact.
