Let's be clear: There are no legal routes for a lot of these people to come here BUT, they do have a legal right to seek asylum here, ergo they are allowed to come here. I know the government has used the incorrect word "illegal" so many times that you have fallen for it but you don't have to. Simply this: The government COULD process asylum claims a lot quicker. It choses not to and therefore creates a "burden" of housing claimants. It then tells you that they are the problem.

Nail on head but for a large part of the population they stick their fingers in their ears and cover their eyes to the truth. The tens of billions of pounds wasted/fraudulently siphoned in recent years by this government would have supported those seeking asylum AND the homeless ex-military many times over.

I suppose the difference is he will sell his house here, buy another abroad, live off his savings/pension.
 
The "burden" is the lack of foreign Nurses, Carers and Support Workers who have been sent packing since Brexit.
That "burden" is on the vulnerable , including hospitals, outpatients and community care as a result of tens of thousands of unfilled jobs.
Our NHS would not survive without "these people". Many Clinical Practitioners have moved to Europe, Canada and Australia since Brexit. But we couldnt survive without foreign workers. These people are not illiterate spongers - like some of those who occupy seats in Parliament.

The "burden" is protecting profits and wealth of the rich, whilst the rug has been pulled from under the public sector - being handed over to the private multinational profiteers.

Those we left behind on the runway in Afghan, to face the bullets of religious fanatics [originally supplied with arms by the Yanks] - they have shouldered the burden of supporting our troops through war. Protecting them and risking their own lives to save ours. Thanks a lot - but, dont come asking for British Citizenship - because you`l be denied it.

The housing "crisis" hasnt been caused by "these people". Thatchers 40+ year leagacy of continuing "right to buy" social housing has left millions unable to afford a decent home. Having a roof over your head has gone back to how much money you have in your pocket.

"These people" havent they closed community hospitals or shut down thousands of hospital beds. They havent left thousands of mental health patients without support in the community or cut the number of Community Psychiatric Clinicians.

They havent closed local libraries or community centres. They havent shut Sure-Start which gave the less well off a chance to go to work. They havent handed huge chunks of our public works to global profiteers. The railways arent in a decrepit state due to "boat people" - but due to deliberate disinvestment by foreign countries and companies who screw us with the highest fares in Europe. Austerity isnt caused by "immigrants" "illegals" "these people" "them" - its a political ideology where the rich get richer and the rest of us get poorer.

There is no "legal" route to the UK unless you are one of the rich elite.
Lets get some of them picking tomatoes and strawberry`s in Lincolnshire or boxing cabbages and carrots.
Plenty of casual jobs going around Boston. There`s quite a few in Norfolk too.

The idea that someone risks the channel because "we are a soft touch" has their finger stuck up their back passage along with their head.
Many refugees are professional people, people who have served alongside our armed forces. People who are the "collateral damage" of foreign wars, where some of the bombs, bullets and shells have "Made in UK" emblazoned on them.

With the escalating pace of climate change, Western Countries asset stripping continents like Africa and South America - more and more people are on the move. There`s much we can do to take our responsibility for the results. No one is innocent when it comes to displacement, war, natural disasters, inequality....... The sooner we recognise it and take down the racist veil the better.

Brian - its only one aspect of the issue.
You and I both know the racists "froth" on any crumb they can - especially the far-right.
That post is as much a reminder to me , of just what has been taken from us over the last 40+ years.
Divide and rule isnt so easy when we have the ammunition to fire back at our enemies(y)

There’s something particularly distasteful about people who came here as migrants trying to shut the door on those opportunities for others.

Some of the people in the government are the most obvious examples but I also saw Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones (The Black Farmer) on Jeremy Vine yesterday.

He was arguing the toss against refugees coming here using all of the usual Tory rhetoric. It was pointed out to him by the other panellist that he came here as an economic migrant and he’s trying to prevent people fleeing persecution coming here. His reply was along the lines of ‘we have to draw the line somewhere’.

Talk about pulling up the drawbridge.

Mind you, this is the same cvnt who was on a few weeks back saying if some people drowned in the channel it was a price worth paying if it was a deterrent to others.

Just watched it. I couldn’t disprove her with figures so would have to accept it.
She isn’t independent though and she dodged the question a little.
It is a fair and legitimate proposal to house people in these camps. The numbers dictate that the smaller housing places she described can no longer cope
