Less than yesterday is a good thing although it could just be a false positive, say for example somebody getting tested again ?
Possibly. I guess a lot of the numbers e being revalidated with corrections.

The rate of new infections over the last week is moving in the right direction.

Stay alert, something else, save lives.

1812 infections in Teesside and 308 in North Yorkshire in South Tees hospital district.

2.0% increase in Teesside. Above the national average.

I would guess there are around 350 major hospitals in the UK so 1 CV19 death a day per hospital would be about right, possibly a bit on the high side in the last week.

According to our neighbour, who works in an ICU ward, there is a death every day from Covid-19 in their ward.

If you recall the report from the Coronavirus Characterisation Consortium from a couple of weeks ago (the one that suggested one-third of hospital admissions resulted in death), the maths from that study imply that more than three-quarters of hospital deaths from Covid-19 have occurred on general wards rather than in ICUs. Apparently the reason tends to be that very old, frail patients and those with significant underlying health conditions are unlikely to benefit from intensive care, so tend to remain on the ward rather than be admitted to ICU, even as their condition deteriorates.

That said, there are 164 NHS Trusts in England, including some which are mental health trusts (so don’t have any ICUs). Most, but not all, of these NHS Trusts will only operate one ICU within their main A&E hospital, so one death per day could still be right.
