…because we lost against Sunderland?

The game I saw was winnable but yet again we were very unlucky. The deflection for the 2nd goal and the random own goal for their third.

Using this as the tipping point for Carrick to be sacked when we are sat in 7th with 14 games to go and have just brought new players into the fold is beyond crazy to me.

We have been saying it for weeks that the top 4 are too far away now to catch, so we have 5th to aim for. We are 1 point away.

Yes, we’ll need to put a good run together but we have it in us. We have new lads coming into the side and after Sheffield Utd the games get a bit easier.

Or look at it another way. Now the window is over and the Lath speculation is finished we can focus on the pitch. We know who our players are for the rest of the season. We can draw a line under last night. These lads know what needs to be done.

I think we can beat Sheffield Utd. After last night’s carry on it would be so Typical Boro to smash 3 past them and start on a great run.

It’s nothing to do with Sunderland for me, although that doesn’t help the mood, I’m concerned that in recent weeks we rarely look like we will go on and win a match.

Its a bit odd, almost like the team fear winning or being in a winning position.

Why focus on last night? The negatives on the pitch have largely been the same negatives for months.

I will give you a clue. It's not just about last night.

If last night was a one off, then I'd agree.

But I think this is a case of you not seeing the wood for the trees.

No, it’s because I have seen this movie too many times now.

The reality is that the team is now pretty badly under achieving despite having a lot of investment, and it’s being driven by the fact that we defend like an U11’s team, and it’s getting worse each week.

For me it has very little, if anything, to do with Sunderland. I actually have alot of respect for what they have achieved this year based on spending very little and creating a team that fights tooth and nail for the club.

TRANSFER WINDOW
we didn't being in ANY defenders

THE TABLE ISNT LYING
there are 12 teams with a better defensive record than us

THE OWN GOALS
I mean.. adding insult to injury

Mowbray leap frogs us in the table
Sunderland's first riverside win in 20 years
Wilder is sitting in the automatics
LEEDS

Blah, blah, blah... yes.. people are upset

I could take losing a thriller to a good Sunderland side if we hadn’t just in the last month lost to poor Preston and Portsmouth teams and drawn against Cardiff at home. In two of those games we take the lead. That’s just the past month, before we mention Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich, Watford etc…..

I keep seeing the reference to those ‘lucky goals’

What about ours?
First - most commentators (not Boro fans) think it came from a foul
Second - we nick possession from a daft pass as they play out from the back

Bigger picture - our form is just horrible….. and the boss isn’t bothered about that.

Random own goal? You mean Le Fee who they signed this month while we went backwards, who is of superior quality to anyone we have, went past Ayling (who wouldn’t be starting for another championship club) with ease which took our cbs out of the game and forced the own goal?

Nothing at all random about that.

And their second goal was nothing to do with a deflection. Edmundson tried the most ridiculous offside trap which failed miserably, while Carrick left a far superior defender on the bench.

Nothing random or lucky about anything last night

But it’s not about last night, most of us have been saying these things for months. Unfortunately some fans just don’t want to see it

There is something about lucky deflections going against us. The Mackems have benefitted from that in both games this season. Both games they were not better than us and a draw would have been fair.

I’m more frustrated now than at any point of the season, as we have constantly been our worst enemy. Not many teams have ripped through us with brilliant passing or attacking skill. It’s been misplaced passes, poor defending, and lost 50/50 tackles that have cost us all season.

Le Fee was taking the proverbial out of Ayling and nothing was done to try and deal with this from a formation or coaching point of view, and guess where their winning goal was delivered from ?

The rhetoric is we were unlucky with the goals, were we unlucky that two players couldn’t get the ball off Neil for their first ?
Were we unlucky that Le Fee left Ayling for dead on their one to one ?

I said on another thread last week "If we iron out our defensive frailities, we'll win the game". We looked nervous at the back and struggled to get the ball to safety, letting them build a head of steam. I really hope that he (MC) has it in him to make some radical changes that will save the season.
