Are France the biggest opposition since Germany 1990?

We’ve played some great sides in the World Cup over the years but I’d argue that this French side current world champions at the peak of their powers ( minus benzema) is probably the toughest side we’ve faced in a World Cup knockout round since that night in Turin.

You could maybe argue Brazil in 2002 but even then there were question marks Over them going into the competition and they weren’t the current holders ( although they of course did go onto win it).

It s debate by the way I’m wondering if others feel the same or disagree ( btw I’m only looking at World Cup games).

I will stick my neck on the block..whoever wins the England v France game will win the tournament. Both teams are streets ahead of the Argentinians, Croatians, Morocco and Portugal.
Agree. And I make us favourites tonight.
We are the best side in the competition and we have good tournament experience through the team now.

Argentina 2002 was a group game though
I watched that 2002 game against Argentina in a little bar in Belgium. We had played a football tournament in Holland and were on the bus back.

A coach full of 16 year old with parents bundled into a quiet little bar. They didn't know what at hit them.

I think if we WIN tonight then it’s definitely our biggest World Cup victory since 1966, and probably England’s biggest win since then entirely.

I think France are the first side we’ve faced in this competition that don’t truly fear us. As there was a lot of hype from the USA and welsh fans etc but deep down they knew what we could do.

France don’t have that as they EXPECT to win that’s a diff mind set and it poses us with a different challenge.

That’s what we are about to find out.
Even if we lose tonight I would still argue we were the best team in the competition.

Man City have been the best team in the FA Cup for the last 5 or 6 years and only won it once. That's knock out football for you. The best team doesn't always win. They are just the most likely winner. I think we would all agree Brazil are better than Croatia and Spain are better than Morocco.

Anyway, I fancy England to get it done tonight. Like I say, the experience of the last two major tournaments has to be a huge positive.

I think if we WIN tonight then it’s definitely our biggest World Cup victory since 1966, and probably England’s biggest win since then entirely.
In terms of importance there would be no argument to that. In terms of performance I think we would struggle to match the 5-1 demolition of Germany in 2001.
