Anyone think houchen will get back in?

Houchen will no doubt try to pin any failures on Labour not working with him in some way or another. They need to be very careful about any decisions that restrict his work and make sure the public are well aware of the reasons why.

It reflects so badly on us doesn't it? Thebrest of the country has released how bad things are, we are still stuck in the unthinking, partizan, stupid, voting pattern. How do we get better?

Engagement. Publicity. Education.

Labour took the area for granted for too long and didn't do enough to improve things when they had the chance. There's been a slow decline in the political awareness of what used to be called the working class but I don't think that label really works any more. Large unionised workforces who knew who and what the enemy were are a thing of the past.

You need to get out and engage with the loudest voices. In the real world and on social media. But you have to do it well. The likes of Alec Brown (Labour council leader for Redcar) mean well, but they aren't ever going to be able to engage with people if they don't get some decent media training.

If people do the same thing for decades and get nowhere, I don't see why it reflects badly when they try something else. The biggest questions should be reserved for the turnout. Labour did nothing to inspire people. That reflects badly on Labour. Not Teesside.

Turnout is a worry, but that's not labkurs fault. Apathy might have been the killer her, why we look stupid, people jsut don't care. So allow this corruption to happen. Or vote for it becasue they don't think hard enough to realise the lies like 9000 jobs, or trams or hospitals aren't actually going to happen

He will say those things whatever happens.

When the hospital that he was never going to build, doesn’t get built he will blame the labour government.

And of course if anything good happens, he will take full credit for it.

It’s ironic talking about a Labour government restricting funds to the area after 14 years of this lot and austerity.
 
A fvckin 30% voter turnout for Tees Valley! 30%!!! What was the Brexit vote turnout 50%? England has become an apathetic, pathetic country these days. Unfortunately with these numbers the place deserves to be disappearing off the map like a deflating balloon.
Kids (and adults) inside on computer games, fat chunts on sofa's watching reality TV, pubs and real discussion gone, music computerised bland tosh singing about arses, social media whinging about immigrants who have literally got more get up & go and determination in one boat than a typical whole English town.
Can you even imagine a miners' strike or a poll tax riot in 2024? What would it take for people to care about anything important these days?

The only solution we've been offered is "vote Labour 'cos it's not Tory". It's pathetic from the political classes who've done nothing for the area for decades.

The Parliamentary Labour Party decided (against members' wishes) that five more years of Tory brutalisation, and a normalisation of lies in politics was a price worth paying to get rid of Corbyn. This is the result.

People have protested en masse in recent years - there's been massive ones in London in the last 5 years and it achieved every little, other than making it illegal to protest effectively.

People are more bothered about being late to work

I would say the PCC result proves this. Far from being disengaged, or merely blinded by tribalism, those who did vote show evidence of being quite discriminating, prepared to vote for a decent Labour candidate, but not any longer prepared to vote on merely tribal grounds for yet another uninspiring p… take. Labour in the Tees Valley needs to do some serious soul-searching. This should have been an open goal. It was missed.

But I also feel that Turner was more widely reported on, people may have had a better idea about him and if so then what it shows is that a better informed electorate make better choices.
 
Andy Street - pretty decent fella doing a good job in the Midlands and he gets voted out. For the bigger picture

Houchen - corrupt, lying cheat giving voters money to his two wealthy lying corrupt wide boys. And the voters go - ‘yeah, that’s ok’ of don’t care.

Neither is a good look for the area.

Yeah, unlikely seeing as we will have all Labour MP's.

What I think is more likely is they will just drive him out with investigations which bring out the truth, as well as bringing a lot more transparency.

Houchen absolutely hates the idea of transparency, but even if he doesn't now he's going to learn to hate it. It will only give him three options, either admit he's a fraud, admit he's misled the area or admit he has been incredibly naïve, and been walked all over by Musgrave, Corney and others.

Musgrave and Corney must have been laughing their t*ts off when doing a "deal" with him, it's brilliant when you get into a situation where you're dealing with someone who has no clue what they're doing, or is easily misled.
 
Houchen is already positioning himself for a Labour government. He's distanced himself from the incumbents and is making 'I can work with Labour' noises. Rachel Reeves has committed Labour to an NAO inquiry so I wouldn't be surprised to see that watered down. I'd love to see him held to account but I won't be holding my breath.

It's laughable when his Twitter account is just full of him slagging off Labour and their supporters at every turn.
