Another shooting in USA

The gun culture will never change. The general population is effectively an armed militia.

In a country with 120 guns per 100 people, it is not surprising.
US in particular - TV & Film - industry glorify guns & have shootouts where only the guilty get hit (never the bystanders)

Unfortunately we know there will be - yet another mass shooting - next week, it may not get reported over here, but it will happen.

You are spot on regarding the use of guns on TV. I have watched a few US series recently and the use of guns was widespread, even where they didn't really add anything to the story. The need to add them is concerning.

I work with a few Americans. All really decent people and all owners of several guns. I remember on a training course in Louisiana one year the conversation got onto guns and ammunition at one point. I was the only non-American and only non-gun owner in a class of about 20.

From the BBC article:

There have been more than 140 mass shootings in the US so far this year.

We're on day 106.
If I've added this up right there's been 34 people shot dead and 133 injured in April alone.

And that's just in "mass shootings". The statistics for gun violence in general are horrifying. Any normal nation would have acted long before now.

The low water mark was Sandy Hook.

Once that was allowed to pass without much stricter controls being introduced there is little else that will drive change.

That is terrifying, and as the daily mass shootings show, they are decent people until they snap and gun down a meeting room full of people or something.

I wouldn't want to be having a workplace discussion with someone whilst wondering if I was about to be shot in the head. Far from ideal.

Exactly.

I'm not sure of the statistics, but I suspect in a nation of 350 million the chances of mass shootings is quite high, given there widespread ownership of guns. One thing I definitely don't understand is why automatic weapons are available. What is the point of having a gun like that?

Worst trait of the yanks I know is their wanton head in the sand views on gun control. They all want a gun to deal with the other bloke. Yet when the sh hits the fan the average gunslinging yank runs away leaving it for the cops to deal with.

A country where everybody watches TV and Hollywood films.

In which pretty much every argument, disagreement or conflict is dealt with by violence and guns.

No wonder so many people see it as a normal way of 'putting things right'

I also read recently that an assault rifle that was used in a multiple murder was to be auctioned off to the general public by the local authorities.

Normal procedure, apparently.

I can't remember where I saw it exactly but I do remember staring at the screen, gobsmacked.

The width of the Atlantic Ocean isn't big enough to get away from them morons.

Our country is clearly ran by idiots and houses a lot of fools, by my goodness, USA take idiocy to other levels.

I read the same think and thought the same... think it was from the bank robbery last week...

Clearly don't want a good reliable gun going to waste... that would be criminal
