Another shooting in USA

Unfortunately we know there will be - yet another mass shooting - next week, it may not get reported over here, but it will happen.
Next week? Chances are there'll be another one tomorrow. They're averaging more than one mass shooting per day at the moment.

Isn't it odd that we look to them as a way to move forward rather than the more civilised nations across the North Sea?

The US is based on commercialism ie marketing and selling

Over the past century they've been extremely good at selling their 'culture' overseas, and we (and many other countries I might add) have bought right into it

And that's just in "mass shootings". The statistics for gun violence in general are horrifying. Any normal nation would have acted long before now.

The low water mark was Sandy Hook.

Once that was allowed to pass without much stricter controls being introduced there is little else that will drive change.
I'd go further back. Columbine should have been the turning point.

Even if they somehow get strict gun controls laws introduced (history tells us that they will not) there are millions and millions of guns in circulation already, so the genie is out of the bottle so to speak. The USA can never control guns because there are too many in circulation.

So - if we open a thread every time we see a horrible multi-shooting casualty, we can all simply Ctrl C and Ctrl V our comments, because nothing is going to change any time soon, even if somehow the massively powerful NRA gun lobby lose control (which they won't).

They haven't had to sell it on. Their peers in the UK did it for them.

Anyone hear that absolutely batshīt crazy speech by Kristi Noem (Governor of South Dakota) at the NRA convention? She bragged about how her two year-old (yes, two year-old) granddaughter already owns both a shotgun and a rifle.

She also told the (according to her) heartwarming story about how her father taught her a valuable life lesson by abandoning her in the middle of a forest at dusk when she was 9 years old and leaving her to find her way back to camp in the dark while following her out of sight and making bear noises to terrify her.

As Jordan Klepper pointed out on the Daily Show, a speech like that reveals a lot about what creates the world view of an NRA member.

the americans are simpletons, they dont see any correlation with just about every person and his dog having guns and shooting after shooting, they will be probs, one next week as well and the week after ,it really is a shame
