Slightly different scenario for my son, after 3 years together they both mutually agreed to call it a day as they are off to universities 5 hours apart, then both have a year abroad but in different years.

He doesn’t go ‘til week after next and he’s really, really down. His ex went over a week ago and she’s really struggling.

Very hard for them both, they should really have done it earlier in the summer to give them a bit of time to adjust.

Hope he’s all right BoroTommo, keeping their minds and time occupied so they don’t dwell on it seems to be the best approach.

If your son has access to this forum I'd give him the nod to read this thread (if he won't be embarrassed at you for posting it).

If he doesn't have access then copy and paste AMs response and send it to him as a word document. Will give him something to reflect on.

I actually sent him A-M‘s words and he was knocked sideways. As mentioned earlier, he’s fully aware I’m in his corner, and it’s brought us closer together. This really is a warm hearted and insightful place at times ️
