Android Auto

Anyone use this?
Anyone have any positive experiences with it?
I'm sick to the back teeth of it after 3 years of battling with it. Works intermittently (and when it works it's actually not that bad). But just disconnects itself for no reason and won't come back on until either (as the app recommends), you restart your phone, clear the cache on the app, or change your USB cable.
All very well if you're not on a motorway doing 70. Not recommended to be fannying about with it whilst driving.

Anyone else had these snags?

Can't say I have, I use it all the time. My main issue, and I think its unique to my car is I seem to have to re-pair the bluetooth quite regularly after using Android Auto. I admit I think it was pretty unreliable in the early days, but these days I find it pretty solid.

Think a lot depends on your phone. Had no issues with it until a few recent update to my Pixel 6 then I'd get an issue where I'd lose the sound on Spotify. Switching the headunit to radio then back to Android Auto fixed it. I got the August patch yesterday so hopefully it fixes that little bug.
I did read the other day that turning data saver on or off might help.

Whats your android device i had isssues when i had a xiaomi device but no isues with google or samsung devices

I've used it for about 5 years on 2 different cars. In my old car it could only connect via usb and that was less reliable because the cable got worn over time. If you are using a cable then try replacing that. Over bluetooth in my new car I never really have any problems other than it makes my phone a bit hot. Sometimes a page freezes but that fixes itself when I switch back and forth between the car home menu and the android auto. The only time I have problems with it not connecting is when I first get in the car and that is usually my phone's problem and is fixed by restarting, it never happens whilst driving.

I have it in my Caddy van in an aftermarket Xtrons stereo.

It seems to occasionally cut out when connected to my Google Pixel 6 (which gets very hot to the touch when connected) but works 100% of the time with no issues when connected to my wife's newer Samsung Galaxy.

It's had many usb cable changes in the last 3 years. The last time I bothered with it, it worked for about an hour coming up the A1. Then it decided to disconnect itself and wouldn't come back on. When I stopped I cleared the cache, restarted my phone and it worked again.
Could well be it doesn't work effectively with my phone (Oppo), but I won't be changing my phone anytime soon.

Use it all the time, works perfectly for me via Bluetooth.

Maybe it's your cars software, rather than the app itself?

Edit; from reading other posts it also could be your phone, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S21.

I bought one of these and a wireless charging matt as my usb port kept dropping the android auto connection on a pixel.
Carsifi
It takes a while to boot (40sec) but all other failings seem to have gone away

Normally works fine but on holiday in Scotland last week it had a proper wobble. I think it's the usb cable that is the main problem. But 99% of the time it's fine.

None works fine in the wife's car (sadly mine doesn't support it)

The only bugbear for me is I can't get Waze on it anymore. Oh and for when I get a better EV I can't get ABRP either

A quick google search indicates there are issues with oppo and android auto all i can suggest is make sure your phone is upto date with updates and reinstall android auto

I use it constantly for Waze and Spotify in my 65 Astra via usb. Over the last 4 or so years I have had to change the cable 2 or 3 times for zero reason. Well except it wouldn't connect and the cable worked fine on other devices.

I use an AAWireless dongle to wirelessly connect my android phone to my Seal Leon (Which doesn't have wireless android auto) I've had a few minor niggles.

1) occasionally, and usually at the same places it reboots the head unit (prime candidate is just before the m62 -> m1 turn off heading eastwards on the M62).

2) sometimes the phone doesn't connect properly and the screen looks like an acid trip.

3) very occasionally the GPS thinks I'm off the road. i think this usually happens when I've not been out of the house for a few days and have the phone in the pocket of my jeans so GPS isn't fully locked in.

I've used Waze and Spotify/google play books on every car trip since i got the car 3 years ago. its been good 99% of the time.

There's a difference between a data connection and an electrical connection for charging. Bitter experience has taught me that data cables die way before the charging element goes.

To the guys who use Waze: did you have to do anything to set it up? On both my phone's it simply doesn't appear on the Android auto app drawer, despite being selected in the options

I've got Android Auto as an option but have never used it. Am I missing out on something?
I've got Alexa Auto or normal Bluetooth for music and radio, and the car's Sat Nav for directions.

I love wireless Android Auto and couldn't be without it now. It's worked flawlessly in my current and previous cars.
It's so convenient when you get in the car and it connects without faffing with cables.

Waze is effectivly a much better version of sat nav, i use it all the time as it indicates very close to the time of arrival and is very good with traffic estimation.

for example the tyne tunnel is 35 mins on a clear run, on a weekday morning when i put my work address in it pretty much tells me if its worth the journey, most days its about an hour at peak times. theres many ocaisions where ive just called workto say im working from home due to it predicting a 2 hour drive to do 35 mile

ohh and it tells you in advance about mobile speedcameras, i wouldn't use anything else for sat nav these days.

Can only use USB in my 70 plate Peugeot 20...whoops sorry! Vauxhall Corsa. For some reason it doesn't support Bluetooth for android auto.
Maybe it could be Peugeots onboard kit.
