Amazon driver scam?

Apologies for the boring thread on a Friday night but I need a little advice. I rarely use Amazon but ordered a Garmin smartwatch using my partners account. It was out for delivery today and was updating the estimated delivery time right up to between 3 & 5pm. Then at 4:30pm there was a notification saying that we had rejected the item and the order was cancelled, with a refund to be arranged in 6-7 days. We had not rejected the item as no delivery was made, which set alarm bells ringing. Spoke to Amazon, who said it was lost, then not lost and now they don’t know where it is….helpful!! Anyone had anything similar happen, feels very dodgy.

Well, I've not ordered something from them that was delivered - or rather I had ordered a watch strap and it was delivered then something else arrived on the same order number but a completely different item, and one that I would never have considered ordering!!! Rang them and they said "we won't be sending anyone to pick it up, can you make use of it in which case I'll just write it off" - so that is what happened.

To be honest I have found Amazon's customer services to be top notch, but they do usually offer to send another of the same item out rather than offer an immediate refund - they didn't ask for credit card details or anything did they?

If its fraud, it wont be against you. AS long as you have reported it with amazon that you didn't reject it, they will look into it with their supplier. There is a lot of dodgy stuff but its all tracked.

We had something come few weeks ago and he came and stood at our front door, then went back to his van where he was for about 5 min. I was waiting on the delivery, and so went up to his van and he said he was just coming to tell me that my order was spoiled as someone's order had liquid in and had spilled all over the parcels so amazon would send a replacement. Thing is, my CCTV showed him stood at my front door with my 2 parcels completely dry. yet in his hands was my parcels, all wet. How did he not ring our doorbell, and then sit in his van for 5 minutes and suddenly a load of wet parcels? Think it is some kind of excuse to say the items are spoiled so replacements get sent.

Our neighbour ordered some cat food and got a PS5, and they told him to just keep it lol

Currently it’s showing as cancelled as we allegedly rejected it, think the default must be to issue a refund on the order. Ideally I wanted a replacement watch sending out for tomorrow but the lady on the phone said that wasn’t possible until a certain time period after the expected delivery time. I can have the money credited to the Amazon account from 6am tomorrow or returned to the bank in 6-7 days depending on bank. No credit card details or anything like that we’re mentioned, it just feels like potentially the driver now has a shiny new watch and it made me wonder how much it goes on. I did try to purchase from a local running shop but didn’t have any stock. Thanks for the responses, appreciate it👍

I had an amazon preorder cancelled the day it was supposed to come last week on me. The day before it was fine, saying ‘expected tomorrow’ etc on the app and then on the day it changed to ‘pending verification’.

The money never came out the bank.

Amazon even gave me a free £5 voucher for the inconvenience a couple days after, this was without me complaining or anything. I’d never had that happen before.

I have a workmate that arrived home from work and his wife said - your big parcel is in the shed. He was puzzled as he couldn't recall ordering anything from Amazon. Went in the shed and sure enough a big box - his name on it and an order number. He opened the box to check the contents and it's a big chop saw. He is an IT guy, he hasn't ever worked on manual stuff so he is baffled. Same as me he rings Amazon and they can't even find the order number let alone anything against his account and he gets to keep it - so he sold it.

I wonder how much they lose that is never recovered or accounted for?

I wonder how much they are making not to bat an eyelid when things are delivered wrongly.

I wouldn't worry about the money, you will get it credited back, it's just the inconvenience of not receiving what you ordered and having to contact them.

Even smaller companies often just resolve things rather than insist on returns. By time it comes back, and they've paid for return, admin, warehouse resource etc it's time and money that can be spent getting the next sale out so easier to just write it off. Item is often opened so then needs grading, may have to refund postage charges or pay more for a collection and so on.

I ordered a Ninja fryer a couple of weeks back and it arrived fine. Couple of days later it arrived again lol. It’s been a couple of weeks now and I’ve heard nothing. Would you keep it if it was you?

If you ask them about it they'll 99% likely tell you to keep it. Better than them asking for it back after you flog!

Mate ordered a bench saw which was delivered to our workplace. It didn't have drive belt with it so he rang them and said could you deliver the new one to my home which they did . They said they would pick up the old one from work.
They didn't pick it up but sent him another new one to work. 3 days later the belt was delivered so he had 3 new bench saws. He waited 2 weeks and his account showed no charges so he sold 2 of them.

Did the cat enjoy it?

I bet he never saw that coming

I had a sort of similar experience with some decent headphones, I live chatted to say not delivered when it said they had been, so they sent another pair, girlfriend then found the parcel actually inside the wheelie bin, not tucked behind it but in the bin itself. I had a whinge at Amazon and they not only sent another pair again but refunded the order. So I wound up with 3 pairs of headphones and hadn't paid for any of them.

Amazon CS has always been pretty good mind, if there is one company I'd rather deal with for warranty etc it would be them because no messing around it either gets returned or you get your money back

Turns out that for certain items they use a one time passcode. They had emailed this to my partner but it had gone into her junk so we missed it. Neither of us were aware they did this although credit were it’s due it seems a sensible idea, maybe just need to make you aware of it when you order.
Still don’t understand why the driver didn’t turn up and knock and mention the passcode, however it looks likely he returned it rather than helped himself so the cynical side of me got it wrong!!

Yeah I've had this many times - the OTP is given to the driver at the door. Usually you get told about it with a push alert and in the several emails about order arriving etc as well as showing up in the app in order section, and drivers will say "you will have a code in your email or you can get it from your orders section in the app" none of that would stop him coming to the door though.

We ordered some garden furniture a few years ago (over £2k worth)
It came without the cover so we complained - they said they would send one out.
They sent a full set of furniture out again.
We called them and told them - they sent the cover out and said they would collect their furniture.
After a couple of months we just gave it away.
We got the cover btw

Had a delivery this week that came whilst I was out. The clown of a driver left in on the doorstep in full view of the road… anyone could have stolen it.

This is the second time it’s happened and the first time the item was take… Amazon just apologised and replaced it the next day
