ALL THE GEORDIES WENT TO ROME

It does make sense. The Geordies went to Rome, got to meet the pope and the pope said to them:-

Who's that team we call the Boro?
Who's that team we all adore?
And they play in red and white
And they're f***ing dynamite
And we'll support the Boro evermore.
He wouldn't answer his own question though .. Why would he ask Who's that team we call the Boro .. and then proceed to tell us they play in Red & White and they're f**cking dynamite .. It makes more sense the Geordies asking Who's that team .. and the Pope giving the answer : they play in Red & White etc and so we're getting the Popes divine blessing and educating the unwashed heretics .. Boro are so good even the Pope thinks we're f**king dynamite and supports us evermore .. .. and on the same note, Geordies wouldn't proclaim we're "f**cking dynamite" to the Popes question .. Why would they? Hence the OPs own query.

But like I say .. Footy Songs never make sense anyway .. :)

& then the Pope asks who the boro are but then knows we play in red & white and are dynamite, & will support them ever more or is it the geordies that are saying that?

It is basically nonsense and I don't sing it on principal.
Bet your great on a night out

It's rhetorical, otherwise it wouldn't make sense for the crowd to sing it because that would suggest that they didn't know the answer either.

Makes sense to me. I remember it in 80's as the pope asking them the question. ie:

"All the Geordies went to Rome etc etc....

BUT this is what he said
Who's that team THEY call the Boro?
Who's that team THEY all adore?
They play in red and white
And they're f***ing dynamite
We'll support the Boro evermore."
"They" makes all the difference. That's what I've always remember it being sang.
