Alex Neil off to Stoke....

Ridiculous to say Sunderland aren’t a bigger club than Stoke.

I reckon he’ll stay, and that this could be a way for him to get a bigger and better contract with the mackems.

Ignoring the relative size of clubs, do we think this rumour is actually true ? Have Sunderland given him permission to speak to Stoke ? Implies that they have agreed compensation with Stoke unless he has a clause in his contract.

Surprised if this is true. He’s been a good fit for Sunderland and they are doing well. If Stoke are interested, Sunderland should offer him a new deal to reward him for his good work thus far. Sunderland would be the big losers if this happens

Based on my lifetime, yes.
Fair enough if that is your only measure.
I don't know how old you are but for a lot of posters that will mean ourselves (and Wigan) are bigger clubs than Everton and Villa.
To younger fans Wigan would be bigger than Spurs.
Which to me is nonsense.

I was being a bit sarcastic mainly to have a go at Newcastle. To give you a hint of how old I am Foggon scored for Newcastle in their trade cup win the year before I was born

It depends on what you define as a "big club" and how operative those criteria are when it comes to what a potential new manager looks for from a club in order to succeed.

Stoke, I'm pretty sure, are and will be better resourced than Sunderland and will offer him a contract that is way above and beyond his current deal, both in salary and length.

Fans often forget that managers will be tempted by the salary on offer, as opposed to all the other issues that matter to fans, some of which are purely emotive.

I'm sure Sunderland will offer him improved terms, but I still think Stoke is a more attractive club, all things considered.
