Alex Bangura

Marvellous stuff👍

However let's clear up the important issues; should he score against any of our opposition (which won't be often as he's primarily a LB) should we launch into a ba$tardised version of the Nancy Sinatra/Audio Bullys classic?

"Bang, Bang! He shot you down,
Bang, Bang! You hit the ground,
Bang, Bang! That awesome sound,
Bang, Bang! Bangura shot you down..."

Thoughts?🤔

The club has completed the signing of Sierra Leone international Alex Bangura.

The 24-year-old becomes the club’s 12th signing of the summer after penning a four-year contract.
Alex joins from Dutch Eerste Divisie side SC Cambuur, where he has made over 100 appearances.
A left-sided player, who can play at the back or on the wing, Alex started his career in the youth set-up at Feyenoord before joining Cambuur.
He brings plenty of experience, having played in the Dutch top division, and he has also won five caps for his country.
Boro head coach Michael Carrick was delighted to welcome Alex to the club.
"He's a really exciting signing," he said. "He's a left-back and he's captained his team.
"He's a good character with a great personality and he won't have any problem fitting into the group."

Alex was born in Mokomre, Sierra Leone, in July 1999.

He started his career in the Netherlands with DRL before joining Feyenoord at youth level.
He played for the Dutch club from U18 to U21 level before joining SC Cambuur on a permanent basis.
He was a promotion winner with Cambuur and has spent the last two seasons playing regularly in the Dutch top-flight.
He has played the majority of his football at left-back, but has also played on the wing.
Alex is a five-time capped international for Sierra Leone.

Chuffed for all the staff who have worked so tirelessly to get our new players over the line.
Its clear where the lines are and the priorities for recruitment and for the future.
We should never need to know the business side of transfers: its a smooth operator who gets what they want. We dont have to talk about our recruitment to reporters and cameras. Its a credit to the club, how we have gone about our business.
Now the real work begins. (y)

Has Engels ever played as a CB? I read he'd played up top as a young player.

Just seems odd we've signed two left backs in such quick succession, we obviously needed two, but I was expecting a nailed on starter and a back up.

Although different players you could argue both have a shout of being first choice? Engels better crossing and a bit more solid maybe, Bangura more pacy and direct loves a lunging tackle.

Nice problem to have if they push each other.

I think bangers was the one we really really wanted, didn’t think we would get him so got outlet plan b in Engels. Now we have both, we may chop and change for a bit, we may play bangers further forward

Horses for courses and gives us different options against different opposition. Something MC has already alluded to. Predictability probably cost us to an extent at the end of last season.
