Albert Adomah

i think Adomah would've done a better job for us in the premier league that season, maybe not kept us up but increased our chances. Traore didn't really become effective until the season after. Financially yes we did well out of the deal itself, although going down did us no favours on that front.

Yeah he absolutely would have, and I actually think his discipline and workrate could have helped keep us afloat. He also produced more in 2 games than Adama did all the rest of the season in actual output (rather than just looking a bit flash).

Nsue should have been playing ahead of Barragan also and kept that right side intact from what took us up.

Adomah was brilliant for us.

I still cannot for the life of me understand why we sold him when we did. He would have probably done a decent job that premier league season even if he didn't always start - and to be honest, after what he'd done for Boro i think he earned his shot at the prem.

There was no need to change that right hand side.

I remember some at the time that he wasn't premier league level. And maybe long term he wouldn't have been. But he was better than what we ended up with.

I remember him giving Trippier the run around in the championship and he didn't end up doing too bad as a premier league full-back.

I really liked Adomah. Shame we didn't keep him. We really struggled at times in the PL with not having enough options. He was better wide right than Stuani and he would have been better on the left than Fischer. After relegation we'd have been far better with him than Braithwaite or Fletcher. I don't think I thought it was a bad decision at the time but with hindsight then maybe it was. Although maybe it was needed to get Traore in which case it was the right decision.

It seems odd that he's still playing. It felt like we got rid of him because he was getting on but he's still playing 9 years later. He wasn't even 30 when he left us.

I was told my a staff member of the club we sold him due to diet related ill discipline. He ate junk food and sh1t all the time against the advice of our nutritionist and Karanka and refused to clean his diet up. he was repeatedly warned and didn’t change his behaviour so was shipped out as the club didn’t want the rest of the squad copying.

He can’t be that bad if he’s still playing professionally. Sounds like total rubbish actually.

It’s a weird thing to make up though and the guy still works for the club now.

As for him still playing, we all have that one mate that drinks loads, eats kebabs and pizzas all the time yet always has a 6 pack.

Maybe Adomah just has a cracking metabolism.

I know I'm going against the grain on here with this - many view his tenancy as a golden period - but this thread and others illustrate for me the big problem with Karanka. He just couldn't get on with his players. Ridiculously temperamental. Fall outs with everyone and of course the infamous mighty flounce.

Yet we had great team spirit and managed to get automatic promotion. We had a good chance of staying up if the club had backed him in that January window.

My view was that he had very high standards. I think you would if you were at Real Madrid as both a player and part of the coaching set up. Especially with Mourinho.

Certain players we had at the time, such as Woodgate and Downing, were probably closer to the chairman and had too much say.

Karanka was one of the few things Gibson has got right in the last 15 or so years, albeit with external counsel. There were too many big personalities at the time though. It was a great time to be a Boro fan, and for many younger fans it’s the only success they’ve known.

That is true. Why make up something like that.

Stuy downing under the cosh confirms this. He created 2 camps and a divide with all the spanish signings

It was widely known (on here) that he didn’t get on with Karanka.

I do think Adama had an impact in some PL matches though, but I’ve no doubt that if AK had had a little more faith in the side that got us up we’d have had a better chance of staying there.

It sounds plausible to be honest. You can’t allow one person to be unprofessional as it breaks the culture.
