Albert Adomah

I really liked Adomah. Shame we didn't keep him. We really struggled at times in the PL with not having enough options. He was better wide right than Stuani and he would have been better on the left than Fischer. After relegation we'd have been far better with him than Braithwaite or Fletcher. I don't think I thought it was a bad decision at the time but with hindsight then maybe it was. Although maybe it was needed to get Traore in which case it was the right decision.

It seems odd that he's still playing. It felt like we got rid of him because he was getting on but he's still playing 9 years later. He wasn't even 30 when he left us.

Don't forget we thought we'd re-signed him from Villa (maybe under Pulis?) Think it fell through on wages or some other detail.
Really good all rounder. Got goals, assists, and supported the full back really well.

Always remember one time Adomah played against us for Bristol City and their team came up the night before and a few of the coaching team went out on the Friday night and we got chatting to them.

They thought we would batter them, but they said there's one player that they have and love who could do some damage, but they won't be able to keep him forever as he's too good for them - and that was Albert Adomah.

They beat us 2-1 the very next day with Adomah scoring.

And I remember watching the game thinking - I'd bloody love us to sign him....he ripped us to shreds.

I didn't want us to sell us him. I know the rumour was he was needed as a makeweight to get Traore in, but I'm sure we could have landed Traore anyway. Villa were in the championship at the time.

Daft decision, although I think AK probably also fell out with him a bit towards the end.

Bit of a Robson - Hignett situation almost. Good player, but if the manager for whatever reason just doesn't quite like you enough, you'll end up out the door sooner or later.

He was excellent in the Championship and deserved more of a chance in the PL. Probably wouldn't have kept us up but certainly would have been better than some of the dross on offer that season.

One of my favourite players from the Karanka era, definitely deserved a chance to be part of the PL squad - was he one of the ones who fell out with Karanka? Seem to remember a couple of fallouts being reported.

I had to look that up, as my memory was playing tricks on me. I could've sworn he played for us in that PL season! I'm surprised to see that he left Boro at the start of the season (albeit having played a couple of games, but I really thought he'd stayed longer than that).

Probably my favourite player in the Karanka promotion season. From about February to April that season he was our best player. Often playing on the left too.

It was great the reception he got when returning with Aston Villa. Boro legend in my view.

Played the opening game against Stoke, think he was on the bench at Sunderland then sold not long after it memory serves me right.

Did he get the assist against stock too maybe? I remember thinking it was a mistake to sell at the time but think he had fell out with Aitor so wanted away.

Was definitely a mistake not keeping him and Nsue when we were in the Premier League. They combined so well when attacking down that right side and would have against most of the other struggling teams in the Premier League.

We did swap him for Traore, which could be argued was a good deal for us.
i think Adomah would've done a better job for us in the premier league that season, maybe not kept us up but increased our chances. Traore didn't really become effective until the season after. Financially yes we did well out of the deal itself, although going down did us no favours on that front.

After the pretty bleak Strachan days , I allways remember Albert as a player who put a smile back on people's faces & made me kind of fall in love with the game again. Top player & allways seems like a good guy as well .

Agreed. Most entertaining player to watch between Johnson's departure and Gaston's arrival.

Adomah had a few run-ins with Karanka which was probably why he was sold. There was one game against Bristol City where he was perceived to have been too friendly with their fans when we lost. And I'm sure there was a few occassions where Karanka either threw him under the bus or dropped him because he blamed him for the goals we had conceded.

He also put in a transfer request at one stage whilst Karanka was here.
