Akpom.

I would be far happier if Chuba stays but only if he signs a contract. I don't want to be relying on a player with his eye on the exit. 1 year extension as a minimum or we sell him now. I don't think he is the sort of bloke to down tools to prevent himself getting injured but there is obviously going to be distractions if he knows he's going to be a free agent next season. It would be different if he was mid 30s but he's at the stage in his career where his next contract will most likely be the biggest one he ever signs so it's not worth risking missing out on that by getting an injury. There's no way anyone can be 100% committed in that situation.
Agree. Plus there will be the added distraction in January window if he is firing, where all the bottom half prem teams will be after him at a bargain price. That could be very damaging to our season.

Look at Ben Brerton Diaz last season. I bet Blackburn wished theyd flogged him for 15 Mil when they had a chance!

Wish people would stop all the bloody stupid rumours about Kane.

It's actually Son were getting in px.

Straight up 👍

If Akpom doesn't sign another contract, then we need to sell him, or risk him going next summer for nothing, not forgetting he can talk to clubs in January within his last year, that would also cause disruption within the club.
If he stays and signs an extension, then great, i'm sure he will continue to enjoy the way Carrick has him playing.
If he doesn't sign an extension, then I'm sure the club will have other options in mind, and continue to move the club forward.
No we don't, its taken us 30+ years to find a 20+ goals a season striker. There's no guarantee he will do the same again but there's even less certainty that whoever we sign to replace him will achieve it. No amount of money we get for him will replace the chance that if he repeats last seasons feat. We are in a really good place for promotion again. I'd take the gamble and let him leave for nothing if we don't achieve promotion.

It's not like we paid a fortune for him either.

Id keep him in any event - his goals could well propel us to promotion, and if he leaves for nothing in a years time we have lost the 2m we paid for him.
If we get promoted he would likely sign another contract in the prem, if we dont get promoted then we probably need to evolve without him anyway.

I posted weeks ago that Akpom was at the core of a very complex summer window.
It remains the same as nothing has changed.
As Coluka posted, the 6 signings to date are peripheral other than Dieng.

I strongly believe we need to keep Chuba with Archer, as we are not going to get remotely as good - or productive - a pair elsewhere.
If all we can get is £10m for Chuba then I think that foregoing it would be a gamble worth taking on automatic promotion. But in fairness, it is not my money.

If we go up, he will sign a new contract if he doesn't already this summer.

I think the most likely scenarios is that both Akpom and the club are keeping their cards close to their chest. I can't see Akpom agitating for a move incase it doesn't come off. And I can't imagine the club are naïve enough to not realise that ultimately he has had one good season in his career so there is no guarantee he will get anywhere near repeating it next season. It's quite a unique situation I think, and one the club could have been in no way prepared for 12 months ago. As you say though, he is the key to the whole window. If he is sold for say between £10m and £15m I think the club will have to go out and spend money, otherwise our young, trendy ambitious manager might start to wonder if the ambition is really there

Nobody on this forum really knows what is happening.

Any so called big move would be to any Premier League club, which in reality are those in the bottom half of the table. It would make sense Akpom being interested in a move to London or the South Coast. I just can't see Crystal Palace being interested, or West Ham and Brentford. That leaves Brighton or Bournemouth.

‘Slightly Injured’ during pre season sets tongues wagging.. I would like him to stay.. but could understand him accepting a move to the prem

27yo and with 10 clubs to his name.. maybe the club has already taken the decision for him?

He is legitimately injured.

Totally agree.

I can't understand why loads of our fans want to give our greatest striker in decades away for buttons?

As for this theory that Chuba might be a one season wonder, anyone who saw him last year must realise that he's finally found his position in formation that suits him.
He's been around enough to know the value of that and there's no guarantee he'd find the same environment elsewhere.

Exactly, dooderooni.
If we get a really good offer for him, then we will probably have to accept it, but otherwise he is our player for a season, and I cannot see him doing anything but his best. Who knows, he may sign for a Premier league club next season - Boro!!
