Akpom.

Will be sad to see him leave but if we receive an offer of £15m then we can't say no. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if the club considered accepting a lower offer to be honest, with him being in the final year of his contract.

If we do sell him I'd be looking at trying to sign Scott Twine from Burnley, either on loan or on a permanent deal. Burnley signed him to help them with their promotion push but I don't think he'll be seen as a massive part of their plans in the Premier League.

in June he was looking for a big move!
The friend has misunderstood the message.

By looking for a big move, what me meant was that Chuba has upped the fibre in his diet with a view to produce an un-flushable King Kong's thumb that would be a hazard to shipping were it ever to make it round his u-bend.

Choo Choo 👍

If Akpom doesn't sign another contract, then we need to sell him, or risk him going next summer for nothing, not forgetting he can talk to clubs in January within his last year, that would also cause disruption within the club.
If he stays and signs an extension, then great, i'm sure he will continue to enjoy the way Carrick has him playing.
If he doesn't sign an extension, then I'm sure the club will have other options in mind, and continue to move the club forward.
Only overseas clubs, you can't talk with domestic clubs while under contract. I doubt he'd get a major top league European club after him, and I don't think he's the type of person to down tools anyway.

I see it this way, Chuba seems to be waiting to see if he gets an offer that he feels covers his current worth and future income. Who can blame him. Never during his career can he argue this opportunity has arisen. He has an offer from Boro on the table, he might yet sign if nobody else meets his demands coupled with a better footballing opportunity.

Fans often see it as a footballing decision, He and his agent will be looking at it as a financial transaction primarily, coupled with a footballing opportunity. He may well want to be nearer Loondon too.

However, the club (imho) will be looking at it in a cost benefit analysis basis. The club will factor in the value of him walking away, the risk of him reproducing his form v not doing so and the benefit of maximising a sale versus the cost to replace him and the quality of player we can attract.

I think this will drag on as I don’t see many suitors in the PL taking the risk on paying the inflated fees some will be hoping for. His value will drop the nearer the window approaches. I reckon the best a sale will produce is around £12M-£15M tops, unless more than one club wants him and a bidding war occurs. His past history will place too big a risk in what will be his prime. I can see Chuba re-signing if nobody matches Boro’s minimum valuation.

If we were offered a fee that enabled us to buy Archer and we expected Chuba to walk in 12 months, they’d be daft not to take it, but it is a gamble in a season where they state auto promotion, top 2 is the aim.
1. How likely to back up last season is Chuba?
2. Who could we replace him with and at what cost?
3. Is Archer available to buy or loan and at what cost?
4. Who is available if Archer Isn’t and at what cost?
5. What is the overall budget given the need for other players needed elsewhere?
so many factors the club has to weigh up and none come with any guarantees, including getting the players we want and Chuba staying.

It is what it is, lots up in the air but, what will be will be. Fans will be rubbing their hands with glee, full of hope and expectation but the truth is the importance of getting the Chuba decision right and bringing in other oven ready players to do the business in the here and now, is far more important than last weeks signings.

The massive feel good factor and optimism at the club would be shattered in a heartbeat if we sold Chuba given his importance to the team, for everyone saying sell him and buy Archer, you do know we will be weaker than last season when ultimately we weren't good enough to go up.

I'm sure it will shatter the optimism of some but there are many of us who will just and see this as another good player who moves on for good reason.

We've been here before, will be again and, frankly, it's all up to Carrick with Gibson's support to take the club forward with or without Chuba.

Exactly if he goes, you know it will be with Carricks blessing, and that means he has plans on how to deal with replacing him.

Viva la Carrick

I think its a complicated one for both parties but just cant see him staying.

Chuba's stock has never been so high and with his track record it could be a one off. For that reason it could be his best chance of him getting a good move and the best time for us to get a good fee.

Judging by the way he comes across in interviews he will want to test himself at the highest possible level, he seems to have a lot of self belief.

Its a shame we/him didn't realise his potential earlier it's all been a bit of mess from the day we signed him.

Obviously if he goes thats fine but replacing him is going to be a massive task for me, even without his goals he's integral to our play.

I would be far happier if Chuba stays but only if he signs a contract. I don't want to be relying on a player with his eye on the exit. 1 year extension as a minimum or we sell him now. I don't think he is the sort of bloke to down tools to prevent himself getting injured but there is obviously going to be distractions if he knows he's going to be a free agent next season. It would be different if he was mid 30s but he's at the stage in his career where his next contract will most likely be the biggest one he ever signs so it's not worth risking missing out on that by getting an injury. There's no way anyone can be 100% committed in that situation.
