Exactly, McGree is a different type of player. He’s a midfielder in the forward line if you like. He brings the balance and he knows the times to just keep the ball and he knows the times to try and create. He’s a special footballer and I feel glad he’s at our club rather than another. Can guarantee he will start most if not every game he’s available and there’s a reason for that.

Ramsey does seem injury prone, that I have to concede.
Silvera does need opportunity, but he has absolutely no pedigree, so I am highly sceptical.
McGree we will likely always disagree over.

Because you were defining a players footballing ability to the number of goals he scores.

McGree is not in the team to score goals - just like Howson and Fry are also not in the team to score goals.

Yeah it’s a concern his injury record. Apparently it’s the same issue that he arrived here with.

On Silvera I concede I am going off what I’ve seen myself in pre season. He does look very good although it’s pre season but it’s all I can go off. Will judge him properly soon but he does have traits I like.

And yeah I love McGree and i think he’s a must start at all times. I know your thoughts too.

I think it'll be Forss - Akpom (when fit/if he stays) - McGree as our strongest three until January.
Silvera has been brought in as an option off the bench in my opinion.

Not the CF, DM, FB, CD or GK.

He's not making anything up, he's pointing out that's goals and assists don't tell the whole story.

Mcgree plays a different role to Forrs and Akpom. Mcgree would drop deeper to allow Giles to overlap to supply balls into the box. That didn't happen too often on the right with Forrs and Smith.

It's also highlighted with the experiment on Saturday with Mcgree dropping into left back when out of possession.

Despite being an attacking 3 they all have differing roles that suit their attributes.
 
We need to replace Giles.. he provided 3 assists for us this year (2nd half of the season) Coulson looks decent to me

Mowett.. he was injured most of the season. Payero could fill that spot.

Cameron Archer with his half season contribution.. would happily see a 1 in 3 merchant come in and play that role.

Alvaro Fernandez in on loan from Man Utd could be an option, Charlie Patino in from Arsenal.. Tom Cannon from Everton..

All manageable and all put us at the front with a better squad that the one we started with last season.

Coulson was rated £10m a few years ago. If we were signing him this summer from Man Utd folks would be going crazy over him!

Paddy McNair.. crap.. let’s sell him for £5m.. £8m or whatever. Crap players don’t go for big money like that.. prem clubs are not interested in crap players. He will do fine at right back.. more than fine.

Matt Crooks.. not good enough to start.. with 13 goal involvements last season! He’s another one taken for granted. More Philip Billing than Sander Berge.. he needs a more exotic name and a hair band!

He looks out of his depth to me, always has, he has pace, but struggles defensively, little end product in the final 3rd. I wish him well, but it really should not have been allowed to happen.

However, we are where we are and he is our only senior left back, which is alarming ⏰ this close to the first game, bearing in mind we have let a better one in Bola leave. I am not suggesting Bola should have been our go to LB this season, just that we should have been certain about who was coming in before releasing him thereby leaving us as we currently are, bereft.
 
I suppose we all want players to come good. He did a few good things on Saturday. Didn’t shirk a tackle and should have scored, but did test the keeper. My concern with him on Saturday was that he looked a bit lost positionally, not knowing when to overlap or sit back. I forgot he is 25 now so would have thought things like that would be second nature. Still hope he cracks it but unsure whether he will

His interceptions look impressive, he drives the ball forwards, he creates chances.. he wasn’t given a new contract by accident. There is the possibility that the management team sees Coulson as the better option to Giles? Our shape and plan will change no doubt.. we might even see a return to wing backs?!?

Part of our problem was we were not good at defending .
We scored loads but conceded far too many , too easily .
Fry and Lenaghan on paper look solid , but they are not Southgate and Ehiogu , or even Boam and Maddren .
They should be bullying forwards but don't .
Was it because they had poor defenders on either side of them ? Or , are they not playing to their potential ?
Personally I think they need a good LCH along side them in a 3 .
We shall see .
