Akpom to WHU £18m?

It's ok saying it happens every season until you remember we don't go up at the end of every season for years.
We have lost our better players from last season. I can't see any of the loanee's coming back. Yet people are saying it's a good thing if we lose our highest scoring striker in years for £18 million.
Beggars belief.

I sadly think the club thinks our LW is sorted.
McGree is unproductive there. Pretty looking player, but not a dangerous one.
Silvera is a wild punt. He's not landed anywhere yet and nothing has emerged from the A league for years and years. It is a very poor league.
Rogers might emerge out there, but is still as green as grass.

Ramsey was absolute class, obvious to anyone.
If he is available we should bring him back in a heartbeat. He would also be prime to replace Akpom if Chuba does sadly move on.
I like McGree, he does link up play well, but when you compare the output of McGree to the output of Ramsey, there is a big gap for me, (I was taken aback) a gap that Riley must step up on. Ramsey took his opportunities, saw a clever pass and was speedier in thought and action in moving the ball forward, he is far more intuitive, McGree isn’t someone who has a great conversion rate either, he really needs to be improving his goals ratio and speed of release the ball and with greater accuracy. A few games of closely watching Ramsey and I was sold on Ramsey being a much better option, he is the real deal and will be a top, top player, Wherever he is this season he will be a joy to watch, I 🙏 its Boro.

I will be gutted if we lose Akpom, I've never once said it'll be a good thing. However, as of right now, we haven't.

Don't fall in love with loan players is a very important rule some fans still need to learn.

Ramsey only started 7 games for us.
I've said it time and time again I think he's absolutely class and will be in the PL in the next two years.... But we were 4th before we signed him, and McGree helped get us there.

But you can only really compare the window shutting this season vs. the window shutting last season. We didn't sign Archer or Ramsey until January.

We've lost Steffen, Roberts, Bola, Giles, Muniz, Mowatt.

Steffen and Roberts have been replaced - We didn't rate Steffen at the start of last season, he improved as the season went on.

We've replaced Muniz with Rogers - Rogers has signed a permanent deal, Muniz was on loan, so we've freed up a loan position.
We've replaced Bola (a covering LB) with Coulson (who will be a covering LB). Possibly a step down but the jury is still out in my opinion.

We also have better players in Silvera, Gilbert, Van Den Berg - Last season we had players like Boyd-Munce on the bench.

Hackney has also massively improved since the start of last season.

We're three signings short. LB to replace Giles, CDM cover to replace Mowatt, and a striker, and we have 5 available loan positions to fill.
Don't talk sensibly on here mate.

My point is that every single team in the league is in the same position as we are. It happens every season and fans seem to just forget.

We still have the potential to bring in 5 loan players. I think we can all pretty much guarantee we'll bring in at least 2 before the loan window closes.
It isn’t so much about numbers now, it is about quality genuine quality to go straight into the first team. Anyone coming in has to be with a view and expectation they are better than anything we have and at least similar quality to a Ramsey, Archer, Giles, etc if Akpom goes then we are in a pickle there too. We have much work to do and I have seen nothing this summer that we will complete the necessary quality needed. I have no doubt we will plug gaps, but they need to be Archer or Ramsey standard, not that of Muniz and Mowatt.

Why do you base a players success or ability on the number of goals he scored?
McGree is a player who can only play in the 3 behind the CF.
He got 6 goals and 3 assists in a full season exc Play offs.

McGree got 9 in 43. 35 starts.
Akpom got 30 in 40. 35 starts.
Forss got 15 in 38. 24 starts.
Jones got 8 in 34. 24 starts.
Ramsey got 6 in 11. 7 starts.

I agree. I've said it in multiple threads.... I think we need three good quality players. A CF, a LB, and a CDM.

I just think fans need to get over this obsession with Archer and Ramsey - "Don't fall in love with loan players"

If we carry on with the "we need to replace Archer" instead of "we need a striker".... whoever we sign will be fighting a losing battle before he kicks a ball.

How many times did McGree pass to an overlapping Giles who then crossed the ball into Akpom? - Akpom got the goal, Giles got the assist, McGree technically didn't get a +1 onto any of those stats.

I don't know the number of times it happened, but I went to every home game last season and watched most away games - It happened.

If we're basing football ability on goals scored - we can get rid of Howson and Fry too.

I'm incredibly pessimistic about Chuba unfortunately. Training on his own down in London. His agent wants a better contract offer from Boro for his client. Boro haven't received any offers meeting their valuation.

I think it'll end in tears.

@indeedido have you seen much of Silvera? From what I’ve seen looks like he could be a very capable replacement for Ramsey.

When we signed Ramsey we were all thinking really? The lad who was at Norwich who scored 3 goals and had his loan cut short due to him being ‘injured’.

We were all a bit confused, he turned out to be great for us but he didn’t play a lot of games.

Silvera has looked bright as a button pre season and again it’s an unknown signing but he could prove to be as good as Ramsey, we need to see what he’s like before we go full throttle on the we need Ramsey back train.

If he’s not cutting it then maybe towards end of window or January it’s worth a re visit to the conversation.

Nail on head. You would expect a number 10 or a striker to score more goals than McGree.

What McGree does really well is link up play and play creative killer passes, ready for an assist specialist to set up a goalscorer?

End in tears in what way...
Rod Tidwell style? For us as a club ? Or for Chuba?

Injuries aside and Chuba aside.
We only need 2 quality signings or loans.
LB obviously, I'd guess we are working on a loan aka Fernandez style
CF, Cannon fits the bill (perfect name) or we gamble on Stewart.
IF Chuba is going, maybe us sounding out QPR re Willock wasn't all pie in the sky?

Exactly. You can't have a LW, number 10 and RW all attacking along an attacking LB (Giles) - There's no balance and you'd get caught out every time.

McGree does all the things that fans don't see - That's why he's always one of the first names on the teamsheet.

When Ramsey scored his 2 goals against Reading.... Does anyone remember who was playing RW that game? ;) or when Ramsey scored against Swansea?

I compared the players who played in the 3 behind the CF.
Did I miss Howson and Fry playing there?

I didn’t include Archer the CF.

My point is the reason Forss and Ramsey scored those goals and Giles got those assists.... is because they have McGree in the team balancing our attack and defense.

You can't have all 3 players behind the striker attacking if you want your full backs to attack too.
