airport queues

Flew from Newcastle. Two hour from leaving Redcar to sitting in the bar in airport.. That included diversion due to A1M being closed and parking car up at airport. Doddle.

(y) I had problems with A19 and A1 closures when i flew last August. Seem to be going on forever.

I’ve flown from Antalya, Atyrau, Almaty, Dubai, Newcastle within the last 3 weeks, no delays or long queueing anywhere.

Fly from Teesside on Tuesday and expect a smooth checkin to bar experience

Flew Manchester Terminal 3 to Barcelona with hold luggage the Sunday before last and then back again last Friday.

Arrived at Manchester 4 hours before my flight time (after reading horror stories about delays). As it turned out it was no worse than pre-pandemic and I cleared check-in and security within 1/2 an hour.

No problems at either end coming back either, in fact Manchester passport control was as quick as I've known it.

Incidentally; found a great little bar in Barcelona !!

Hopefully it’ll all be ok, doing all the Virgin ‘ready to fly’ stuff just to make things that bit smoother 👍🏻

May have to have a trip to Barcelona to visit that bar 😁

Re: fast track I think they have severely restricted or cancelled it at some airports (as mentioned above "what if everyone just buys fast track"?)

Worth checking before you travel but I think it needs to be purchased at least 24 hours previous for most airports.

Flew from Birmingham last week, advised to get to the airport 4 hours early because of security delays, it took 15 minutes
Birmingham was bad about 10 days ago - unheard of queues - snaking all around the car park. It was on Central News. The Airport said they had got rid of alot of their staff in lockdown and alot did not come back (surprise surprise). They had recruited some new staff but they were in just in training. It sounds like it will improve as more get trained.

Flew from Leeds/Bradford a few weeks ago, total nightmare, the queue was outside, into the drop off area where the bus drops you off,

On the way back was also bad, waited at the luggage carousel for 1.5 hours, found out there was only one poor young lad trying to
do everything, once the carousel started there was a big cheer, then 2 min later it broke down:(, the lad had to push the cases through a doorway, people offered to help but weren't allowed through the door!!

The drop off bus driver said they had lost 78 staff, due to lock down, and most never returned, hopefully they have got things sorted now.

Flew from Leeds on Sat at 1pm and got through security in 10 mins as there wasn’t a queue. Didn’t know what to expect and was dreading queueing for hours, but I think that’s only the early morning flights. Got there 3 hours early to be safe and then our flight ended up getting delayed by 2 hours…

Got a 6am flight in September from LBA but it's the first week back at school so hoping it won't be too busy. Can't seem to book the Fast Track this far ahead anyway.

Flying from Doncaster on Saturday at 7AM, anyone flew from there recently and know what the queues are like? Planning on getting there for 4AM - too early?
Not sure what Donny is like now but from what I can recall it's pretty good. That's what you get from getting City status :):):)

Fast track >>>>>> rip off !

Why should there be such a thing ?

Give everyone the same service ..... flights and holidays are not cheap, why the extra charge ?

They'll be charging us for using the planes access steps next 😡

Try a different time if it's just not letting you proceed. I moved mine 30 mins as it kept saying zero charge.

Does make me laugh. Fast track to get on the bus 1st. Followed by the cattle class who get pole position at the doors to get off 1st and on the jet before the fast trackers.

Anyone flown early morning from Stansted recently? Got a Sunday 6.10am flight next month
Yes I have
Going out it wasn't too bad (its all about school hols I think). But, to be sure I booked fast track through security.

The biggest problem I have had recently is passport control coming back.

Gatwick and Stansted offer a limited number of spaces (£7) per head. We just sailed through and the other queue was just bonkers
You need to book well in advance

Yep I’ve never understood it, the conversation around something like Fast Track must have gone something like this

CFO - I’ve got an idea to bring in extra revenue
CEO - I’m all ears
CFO - We charge people to come through security
CEO - But don’t people come through security free of charge
CFO - Yes, but what we do is charge people and tell them they’ll get through quicker
CEO - Why would people pay, we have up to 20 lanes open for security and it only takes about 15 minutes
CFO - That’s the beauty we only ever open 2 lanes. That means we can get rid of a load of staff and people will pay to come through security.
CEO - Mmm, I’m not sure people are that gullible but let’s give it go eh. Now you also mentioned about people paying to board the plan first even after their seat has been allocated, talk me through that plan………

Yuk . Anyone travelled recently . I’ve done a number of airports in the past few weeks . Schiphol twice and both were 2.5 ish hours, Leeds was 2, Copenhagen 1.5

Is the the new normal allowing 4 hours check in and passport control just to be safe ?

Gonna kill the industry and will be bedlam once the holiday season starts
Bag drops worse than security. I was 5.5 hrs early for my flight. Bag drop was open but tui wouldn't let me drop my bag off until 4 hrs before departure. They wouldn't let me wait at the front and sent me to the back of the queue. Madness
