Air B n B's.

It was a Dispatches programme I think, about 5 or 6 years ago maybe a bit longer about the problems at the time in Barcelona. It specifically mentioned tax dodging, I decided then that I wouldn't use them. More recently a group of my friends had booked a large apartment in Scotland through Air bnb, just before they were due to go it was cancelled as the owners had received a better offer from some other people almost double the previously agreed amount. They are looking at ways to try and get some compensation.
gazumpers are curnts in any walk of life. Some of the most important events in my life have happened in Barcelona. Good and bad. I adore the place.

I'm on the side that Air B&B adversely impact local people. It's this and second homes in general that badly effect places like Cornwall.

If it wasn't Airbnb it would still be privately let as a holiday home, just not through Airbnb so you're not really protecting communities by using it. By the same token I guess people don't take holiday at all as the impact on tourism will drive prices up for locals as areas get more popular?

second home ownership should have 90% tax on anything earned against it
I'm not sure on something that high, but it's not right that someone can have a second home and hardly use it for the majority of the time. I'm also against private landlords too. Shelter is a basic requirement for life and don't think people should profit from other people in that way. Thatcher's policy in the 80's just transferred social housing to lots of private landlords. Some private landlords are great by the way (I know a few), but that's not the point.

Food and water is also a basic requirement.
plenty of profits made from that.
