Air B n B's.

Just booked one in Cyprus, reviews are great and just what we need. Cannot be assed with a Hotel after staying in an Air B n B.

We’ve booked a few really nice UK ones and never had a problem. Currently looking at what’s available in Rome for a city break too.

I would look for a decent Airbnb before booking any type of package deal now

In a service-apartment/hotel in São Paulo right now. I normally wouldn't use, and usually book regular apartments. BUT an Airbnb host owns two of the units here. I am here for £30 a night (great hotel breakfast, pool etc all included). If you book a hotel suite, it's £140. I suspect this private one is in the worse nick (one of the lamps doesn't work, older microwave etc) but it's essentially a one bed apartment for £30. Great area too. Can't fault it, and a great endorsement for Airbnb.

Great way to destroy communities.
Appreciate the sentiment and agree with how they disproportionately affect local communities. Listened to a podcast recently on the impact being had on ordinary families in Cornwall with a huge number of rivate rented sector landlords turning to holiday let's.

Have to be honest though and say that they offer an incredible service for their users, a million miles apart from the offering of others and I use them semi regular. The incentives to use them are incredibly high

It happened to me in North Devon. The local landlords were converting their homes to air bnb and holiday cottages. They made a lot of money during the pandemic. However there were no houses for locals to rent.
I had to move away, closing my business and my employees lost their job.

Yep, used them for years - stayed in some incredible places in Riga, Edinburgh and Sicily.

Must admit we've moved away from during Covid as payment is taken upfront and can be a ballache to get back if plans change but will be back on them in the long run I think.

Will be using one in Barcelona next month.

Just do your usual due diligence, check reviews etc.

Used them all over, definitely better than a nice hotel, particularly in rural areas. App is great, owners usually responsive.

European Cities, I find a mixed bag, I booked Amsterdam for a boys weekend recently and found budget hotels to be much better value, but if I was going with a partner then it would be airbnb.

Lived out in SE Asia for a few years and they are catching on there too.

Yes use them all the time as first choice when I look for somewhere to stay. Following the Boro about often stay in one for a mini break.
I usually book with the free cancellation which is a real bonus if things have to change, but haven't used that feature much but was a saviour during Covid etc.

I have found recently though that many hosts have stopped listing for a while which is putting up the price on the remaining places, so sometimes budget hotels are cheaper but not necessarily as nice. All depends if you want to self cater for while or not and where you are etc.

I also sometimes use Vrbo but not always the selection / price I'm personally after.

You pay through Air B n B and not directly to the owner, obviously you have facts to back up your claim.
It was a Dispatches programme I think, about 5 or 6 years ago maybe a bit longer about the problems at the time in Barcelona. It specifically mentioned tax dodging, I decided then that I wouldn't use them. More recently a group of my friends had booked a large apartment in Scotland through Air bnb, just before they were due to go it was cancelled as the owners had received a better offer from some other people almost double the previously agreed amount. They are looking at ways to try and get some compensation.
