7 pt gap GD is 4

Pretty gutted they won last night to be honest. Didn't have any real hopes of Reading beating them as they are completely hopeless, but from what I've seen of the match, it was absolutely dire, Sheff United looked awful, and neither deserved to win. The fact that they've managed to score and see it out and give themselves that 7 point cushion is frustrating.

We're absolutely flying and I can definitely see us closing the points gap, but the fact it's now minimum 3 games to swing it with only 11 left has definitely dented my confidence ever so slightly. I'm an eternal optimist so staying as positive as possible, and we are an excellent side at the minute, but there's a little niggling feeling in my head that those extra few points last night might see them through.

Hopefully things take a swing our way in the next few games and we can close the gap ASAP. Really hoping they go through in the Cup too.

Any stattos out there that know of any other seasons/scenarios where a team has closed a 7 point gap with 11 to go?
They did not close a 7 point gap with 11 to go but Reading (ironically) in 2012 closed an 11 point gap in 11 games on West Ham from January 22nd till March 22nd. They went on to win the League! West Ham beat Blackpool in playoff final!

They struggled to beat Reading who we just put five past, no mistake, we're breathing down their necks.

Will we catch them? Perhaps, but regardless we need to maintain our form to take us into the playoffs full of confidence.
We beat them at home, their away form is appalling and they've been very very good at home. Utd had to work very hard for that win. Its by no means a done deal we catch them.

They have the points in the bag which ultimately may prove to be decisive. However that's about their only advantage.

We are in better form, playing with greater confidence and scoring more goals.

Our team spirit is great. The players believe absolutely in the manager and vice versa. The fans believe in the team and the manager. Our whole club is aligned and in harmony. I don't think you can say the same about them.

We have nothing to lose because after the start we had anything we get out of this season can be seen as a bonus. They have the fear of missing out on something they seemed to have all but sewn up a few weeks ago. Its easier to be the chaser than the chased.

We don't have the distraction of the Cup and potential fixture congestion that may bring.

Yes they are still the favourites at this point but it's not like it requires a miracle yet. We still have a reasonable chance of catching them.

Not exactly what you're asking, as my example involves mid table teams, where perhaps big swings are more likely. But...

In the 2010/11 Championship season, Boro were 11 points behind Ipswich with four games to go, and GD 10 worse. (I know this because I had a bet with an Ipswich mate, who's team would finish higher).

Ipswich lost three and drew one of the last four. We [awesomely] won our last four to finish level on points and better on GD. (We finished 12th, Ipswich 13th, and I won the bet) 💪

Keep the faith

Honestly I’ve never doubted we’d catch em
Still haven’t.

They’re a poor side scraping results

We’re a good side in form and scoring for fun. 17 without a draw is huge.

If they lose to Luton, we could be 1 point behind before they play Sunderland. Anything less than a win in that game and we would have chance to go into 2nd while they play in cup. Could turn round really fast. Still a lot of life left in this yet. We just have to maintain our form.
First part done. Beat Stoke and SU will be a bag of nerves v Sunderland.

Last season Forest were 11 points behind Bournemouth with 10 to play.
8 games later they were 3 points behind with 2 to play, with a better GD.
The next game was Bournemouth v Forest.
Bournemouth won to spoil the story but still.....

I think we are capable of winning all of the last 10. Odds are that we won't, but we are well equipped to do it.
This isn't the Boro we've grown up with, we are more like one of Fergies great Man Utd sides.
Watch any game under Carrick and see how many men we get in or on the edge of the opposition box. If we are not flooding it then it's probably because we've caught them on the break. The number of penalties we get is a product of this as well.
If we added set piece goals and long range shots to our game then who would be able to get anywhere near us?
Watching us is like watching a craftsman on YouTube, we make the hard part look simple. I'm sure lots of hard work is done between games which allows Carrick to just unleash us come kickoff, but you can see him just calmly watching all that preparation pay off as we create chance after chance.
Time to shed that 'typical Boro' cloak and just enjoy us for what we are, a bloody watchable footballing machine.

It's going to be as tight as you can imagine. It will be so close.

They won't sleep easy tonight in Sheffield...

Have to agree Dood. It just doesn’t seem like us though!
