50 years ago today Boro clinched the 73/74 title away to Luton

A game I wished I was at is the last game of that season, PNE away.
Big Jack's Boro relegated brother Bobby's Preston - apparently huge Boro following that day and banged in 4 goals!

That game is worthy of a separate thread.
My first ever away game.
Boro fans pretty much took over the ground.

That to was a fantastic day. Icing on the cake was when we got back home, we found out that Man Utd had been relegated ( no car radio back in them days)!

Remember we were taunted as ‘Boring, boring boro’

Just checked the stats - 77 goals.
13 more than the next best - Luton who finished 2nd

I think we won three away games on the bounce 3-0?

Think it was 4-0...WBA, Fulham were two I think?

I was there. My parents took me. I remember it was a really hot day and everyone went mental when we scored. My Mum ran down to the side of the pitch after the game and gave John Craggs a kiss as the players did their lap of honour.

It was my first ever Boro away game. Living an hour away, my Dad and Mum told me that we were going shopping in Bedford.
Then at lunchtime my dad told me that we were going to the the match, and we left my young brother and mum in Bedford with an arrangement to pick them up after the game.
TBH I remember little of the match, other than I liked the orange Luton kit (which they have copied in this year’s design).
After the match we left quickly to get back to pick up the rest of the family from Bedford before heading home.
Not a bad game for your first away match!
Thanks Dad!!

We were walking back to the bus along a path near the ground and came face to face with a a similar size group of Luton fans. Me and my mates weren't fighters and we approached with a bit of apprehension. As it turned out they were like us, so it was a cheery "see you next season" as we walked by. Luton, Carlisle and Boro were promoted and I think Carlisle went top for a few weeks.
