44.5 million for Gibbs White

Well they had loan players disappearing and others not up to the top level. They're having a go like we used to.

Most of their loan players would have returned if given the opportunity, bar Spence.

James Garner is for sale, Davis and Lowe are back in the Championship and the Forest owner's other club signed Zinkernagel.

Most of the other players they lost barely featured, with the exception of their keeper who I'm not sure they pulled out all the stops to keep.

He's another who Cooper had with him when he won the u17 world cup with England, will be interesting to see how they go.

Of course the loan players would return but would you want them if you had the option of signing better players?

Forest are certainly splashing the cash
135m they've spent on 12 players with fees. Plus another 3 frees and a loan.

Massive wages on top of the 135m in transfers. I guess if they come down, the FFP will be about 1/4 of that 135m, so 35m, the prem income will be eaten up by the wages.

So if they come down they'll need to sell one or two of these players for top whack. But will be fine after that. The bonus for them is that they are largely 24 and under. in fact only 3 f those 12 signings are over 24. Seems good business. They might not stay up this year, but if they go down and have done their homework on these signings it'll see them right for the next 5-10 years because it seems a good investment.

It's a problem for clubs like Boro, who, when trying to bolster their squad get quoted absolutely f*cking ridiculous fees because clubs like Forest pay absolutely crazy money for "decent" players. So signing top championship level players becomes unsustainable for .... championship clubs. We then have to look at second tier signings - not exactly bridging the gap between Premiership and Championship.

Where will it end? £100m for a 17 yr old Southampton reserve because he's "pretty good". 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

The prices for players like this, untested potential, is where things have gone truly bonkers.

Imagine it in any other walk of life, like buying a car. "It looks a bit like a BMW, it's driven on the same roads as other fast cars and although nobody's actually tried flooring it, it might be as fast as a BMW M3, so we'll sell it to you for the price of a Ferrari."

In football it has left a layer of Championship level players completely unobtainable, too expensive for our league yet just not good enough for PL teams. We loan them on salaries way beyond our better players and they swan off again after a few months knowing we can't afford to buy.

It's only 44.5m with addons, the fee is £25m, still high but if he earns the addons arguably he's probably done what they needed him to do

Although it's a big if at the moment, I wonder what price tag they would put on Giles if we got promoted? 10M?
Like MGW, he's probably a Wolves fan, but not sure if he's played for the first team yet? However if your club wants to sell you and you get a decent pay rise, I guess you would be interested in leaving.
Let's hope we are looking to buy him permanently next summer!

Shows we gave tav away

We definitely did sell Tav for much cheaper than he's worth, but Gibbs-White has scored 12 and assisted 10 in 37 Championship games last season, including the play-offs.

Tavernier has only managed 15 goals and 15 assists in 135 Championship games.

It's a ridiculous fee that Forest are paying, but he had an outstanding season last year.

They’re different players.

Gibbs White was player as a striker at the back end of the season.

We undoubtedly sold Tav on the cheap though.

That's the Premier League for you. It's what it was designed for.

They are, but Tavernier has always been an attacking player and his actual goal contributions have never been particularly noteworthy.

Last season was when he finally started to fulfil his potential.

Obviously there's much more to football than goals and assists, but they do have an impact on transfer value for attacking players.

IMHO it's money well spent. In two years time there will be a Man City/Liverpool/Chelsea willing to pay double that fee for him. English too. All good.

If they finished in tthe bottom 3 and they receive £101m

Take off an additional wage bill of £60m

Leaves £41m for transfers fees plus fee received (have they sold anyone for fee?) add on additional tickdet and commmercial sales takes it up to £50m so they are running a deficit this year of around £80m?
