4 more years of Trump

One of the worst humans that has ever walked this planet. He had good PR though.

Taken out of context the facts and figures of that website you provided a link for are pretty damning. It’s worth remembering though that the US were heavily involved in the Middle Eastern crisis before Obama became president. The illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were started by the Bush administration. Pandora was well and truly out of the box. To claim that Obama and Biden are murderers because of the many lives lost because of a situation entirely created by a previous republican presidency is almost akin to calling Winston Churchill a mass murderer because of the many lives, including civilians, lost in the Second World War.

Donald Trump boosted about paying no income tax when he is a multi millionaire - if all multi millionaires don't pay any income tax how can we operate a modern economy?

I can understand he wanted to revive the USA as a manufacturing country, that he wanted to help low income Americans, get better trade deals - in the end he went down the wrong route to me for example supporting the fracking industry above long term environmental concerns. The future has to be using less fossil fuels and more renewables. He seemed to help the better off in America more than those on low incomes.

”they” didn’t cure smallpox Edward Jenner did

The word I used was eradicate. Did Jenner eradicate smallpox by the end of his lifetime, after developing the vaccine in 1796?

It is estimated that in the 20th century alone Smallpox killed 300 million people. That is despite having been completely eradicated by the WHO by 1979.

That is no mean feat on its own. Perhaps weigh this up and the potential damage Trump is inflicting on the world just in this respect.

We are so close to the complete eradication of Polio.

oh yeah, when we are looking at death count, he is perhaps putting a final nail in the coffin of the planet with his climate change denial and his withdrawal from the Paris Accord.

BREAKING NEWS - Trump is now demanding a recount in Wisconsin even though the final result isn’t out.

Even if Biden ultimately wins the keys to the White House, I fear for what Trump will try to do.
He can'r have a recount unless he is within 0.5%

That is plainly the most ridiculous comment made so far on the new board....in part because it's on along thread about Donald Trump, who while we are having this discussion is trying to stop legally cast votes being counted because he might lose....you know like a fascist dictator.

The illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were started by the Bush administration
Afghanistan wasn't an illegal war, Iraq it's a lazy argument to just classify it as illegal, it's much more nuanced when in a conflict with a dictator with a history of violence against his own people and neighbours and against the west.

Saw this on reddit as to why people vote for Trump. It received a couple of gold (merits) on there so thought I would share.

“This is similar to what I've said to friends/family/coworkers who just cannot understand what some people see in Trump.

My answer is that normal politics is boring, difficult to understand, and requires time and effort. For fans of Trump, he makes liking him and his politics so F***ing easy. When I spend time researching the policies of politicians I vote for (100% Dem for awhile now) it's difficult and boring. There's no endorphin rush involved in the process. It just ends with a feeling of "Oh, good."

When someone goes to a Trump rally or watches it online, it's a flood of positive emotions to be a part of a crowd cheering for an incredibly nebulous message, but a message that you already agreed with anyway. It can be a total fabrication, but if you like it and all the people around you like it, it feels good to be in that group and agree with everyone in it.

And the Republicans accuse Democrats of "identity politics" anyway.”

Trump is exhibiting all of the characteristics of megalomania that make him not fit for Presidency.

Its an interesting contest though and as much as Biden has his mail in voters Trump has a huge number of silent voters that pollsters cannot track. Not sure why they have to be silent though. Could it be embarrassment that they share some Trumps sketchier believes but don't want to admit it in public.

On Newsnight someone days that 19% of Trump voters wouldn't admit it to friends and family for risk of embarrassment or retribution. It was 9% for Biden.

I'll add my take on it too, it's quite simple really.

There is something in the American psyche that worships god, money and 'freedom' - above all else.

'Above all else' is the important bit, because it excuses his misgivings.

Another thing that they worship is 'heroes', whether it be Superman, movie stars or sports heroes.

Trump knows this, and continually eulogises these concepts in his tweets & rallies etc, entrenching his position as the 'hero' who will provide 'god, money and 'freedom' .

And they lap it up

I understand the general point and I'm sure there's a lot of truth to it but the thing I really struggle to get my head around is "it makes him easy to like" or the fact people love him. He's one of the most dislikeable people on the planet. Even if I knew nothing about his policies or beliefs he still comes across as a narcissistic bullshitter with many similarities to a spoilt adolescent. I have to accept that millions see it differently but it's incredible to me that so many idolise him.

I understand Boris' popularity, there's a certain charisma to his "act". But with Trump I just don't get it at all. He's clearly a pr*ck, it's blindingly obvious.

Yeah I see where you're coming to, which maybe then comes back to @red_harrington point about their psyche and how it differs to ours?

narcissistic bullshitter

Or confident smooth-talker?

so many idolise him.

Because he's a billionaire businessman with a supermodel for a wife who has succeeded in everything that the average American aspires to

But with Trump I just don't get it at all. He's clearly a pr*ck, it's blindingly obvious.

To you and I - yes - but to millions of Americans he is their hero

Their nation is in such a state that half of them think he's the best choice as leader and a fair proportion idolise him.

In a nation where pictures of John Wayne adorn so many walls is it any surprise?
