3 more players

The point is, we need to get out of that cycle and build our own asset base up, that can’t be done through the loan system only through buying players and improving them, coupled with giving the kids an opportunity

I think we are doing that but it might take a couple of windows to fully do that.

What is clearly apparent is that we wont have 5/6 loans again this year, but we may need 2 or 3 this window, then by next summer it might just be 1 as we have developed our own over the 12 months etc.

But to say we have to go cold turkey this year from 5 loans last year wont be doable if we want to still compete.

That's what we are doing. It's not like we aren't signing anyone. We've signed 8 players this window. Some will work out and some won't and realistically it's going to be a couple of seasons before we really benefit from some of those signings. I'm sure we all agree that we don't have the funds to sign players of the same quality of those we've lost. The signings we've made aren't ready to do that. The hope is 2 or 3 them will become good enough over the next couple of years.

So in the meantime we either bring loans in or we take a massive backwards step. Potentially even risk dropping out the league.

Unless anybody can recommend us 4 ready made players to replace Akpom, Ramsey, Archer and Gliles who are available for less than 2 mil and are willing to come to us for around the 15k a week mark then we need to use loans in the interim.

This model we are adopting of essentially stockpiling younger, talennted players is going to take a few years to come to fruition. We will build up a squad of players over the next 5-10 transfer windows. Patience is required. In the meantime, we loan or we struggle.

I wish you would slow down kid

Agree entirely, hoping it’s just 2 this season

I’m not sure we will struggle but other than that we are in violent agreement

You think Rogers, Silvera and Laff are the same level of Akpom, Ramsey and Archer?

Jury out on the LB
We are replacing in the aggregate.. consistency and a greater defensive contribution.

I don’t think we’re finished yet..

McNair - Cody Drameh
Coburn - Liam Cullen
Coulson - Novatus Miroshi
Barlaser - Isaac Hayden
Akpom - Ross Stewart
Payero - Alex Pritchard

I do think Rogers is further forward than Akpom was at that age, Silvera will play more games for us and Latte Laff will play more snd score more than Archer.

I don't think anyone could realistically argue that they are, Engel included, but they are all PL quality players and we can't afford to bring in direct replacements, that's the simple reality.

They don't have to be as good to be better financial decisions (Akpom aside). Ramsey and Archer will have cost us a lot for their loans that we don't get back. If Rogers, Silvera or Laff are half the players that those two were then we make a profit on them and if they don't improve we can probably get our money back on them but their wages will be lower than we were paying for loans.

Loans are only worth it if you achieve something. Ramsey, Archer, Steffen, Giles, Mowatt and Muniz last season must have cost us a fortune and we got no return on them. If we had been promoted then you could argue they were good value but we didn't so they were expensive and, as mentioned, they prevented us from developing our own players. If Mowatt had been competent early in the season we wouldn't have Hackney starting every week.

It's also very easy to defend the loan system when you get players like we had last season but when you think you can have a season with Sporar, Siliki, Hernandez, Connolly and Balogun instead then it's less easy to defend spending so much on loans.

1 or 2 loans that are too good to turn down is sensible. Half the first team disappearing at the end of the season forcing another summer rebuild isn't.
