Dijksteel and Smith are fine at RB, we definitely have much bigger issues! I'd sooner see another LB come in

Why are we recruiting for the positions we already have a lot of players in when we have nothing at right back, even when Smith comes back.
CF - Lath, Forss, Coburn
CAM - Rogers, Gilbert, McGree
CM - Barlaser, Howson, Hackney, Payero
We even have good youth players coming through in those positions.
Our recruitment feels like it's a bit of a mess at the moment.

I was thinking about this last night and I think we need a left back to compete with Engel but who can also cover Centre back. We have a few players who can cover right back at a push but short on cover for left back and centre back of even a midfielder who can cover left back or centre back at a push.

Forss is seen as a right winger by Carrick. Coburn will leave on loan.
Barlaser is disappointing and Payero will more than likely be sold or loaned out. We are desperate for a central midfielder in my opinion. Priority position.
Attacking midfielder wise is for someone to come in and compete with Rogers presumably. Who I have been impressed with. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Gilbert go out on loan to a league 1 side tbh.
McGree will be competition wide left with Silvera.
I think Carricks clearly a big fan of Smith, and McNair VDB and Dijksteel all options too.
Agree with poster who said a left footed player who can play left back and centre back would be handy. Clarke can do that but god knows how long he’s out for.

CF - Lath, Forss, Coburn - Coburn is going out on loan to help his development and is nowhere near ready to start a full season for us. Whether you agree or not (and most fans seem not to) Forss is very much a right wing option for Carrick and Latte is unproven and settling in.
CAM - Rogers, Gilbert, McGree - Gilbert seems to be absolutely nowhere near playing first team so far, Rogers looks like he'll struggle to score 5 goals from what I've seen of his finishing / technique and Carrick has chosen not to use McGree so you can only assume he doesn't seem him as a regular number 10.
CM - Barlaser, Howson, Hackney, Payero - Barlaser is a little slow and lightweight and Mowatt was chosen ahead of him when Howson was out last season. Howson is nearly as old as me and can't last forever, Hackney is a nailed on starter, Payero looks to be on the fringes having never established himself with a run in the side.
Every single one of those options is worse than we had available last season, we have nobody in reserve or a new first team starter as good as Archer, Akpom or Ramsey and nobody off the bench as good as Mowatt.
For a team that has really struggled to score any goals in its last six or seven games looking for another striker and a CAM/No 10 seems to be perfectly sensible to me. The fact we've recruited 'punts' in many of those positions is neither here nor there really.
We are woefully short in attacking quality at the moment, as our goal output, crossing, finishing, set pieces etc clearly attest to.
A couple like Rogers and Silvera might come good, but they should be rotation options for better players for me.

I'd be happy for us to invest in a 20 year old RB to be ready for next year and fill in occasionally. Smith is back in training and will likely be the experienced head in that defence.
We don't have a young RB at the club anywhere near the first team as Agyemang seems to be setup to be our future CDM

Gilbert has had a hand injury otherwise he would probably have played the cup game. He's a longer term project still, but he will get a few appearances from the bench and any cup games I think he will start
