The public transport arrangements to get people where they want to be and back will be a nightmare, especially with distancing on trains and coaches?

Yes I guess so, I think I heard that there will be no rebooking fees if people now want to change dates times of trains etc. It’s gonna be complex I’m sure.

It's not about rebooking. Trains are crammed on 23 and 24 December every year anyway. So there simply won't be room for all those who want to travel. Plus, for anyone in London wanting to go north and back, King's Cross is closed until 31 December.

On the three families - so I could potentially visit my mum and my brother could visit her also along with his wife and kids. Does that presumably mean that my brothers wife could not then visit her mother?

Dates are a bit daft before Christmas... lots of people are still working up to and including Xmas eve.

Oh no, anyone else with a split family, Over the years I agreed to let my kids see their mother for Christmas and I would see them at New Year. I hate the kids being pulled in different directions.
My parents have passed away and I was so looking forward to try to see someone at christmas. Another day under the covers in bed hoping it will all go away. :-(

That’s as they describe it, if you wish to follow the rules rigidly. Virtually no one will though.

NYE will be a joke. People aren't going to followto the rules, they won't over Christmas either. We'll be back under a full lockdown again by mid January (n)

That's already planned for. Tier 3 up here until the vaccine I reckon, the definition of Tier 3 will change though, no doubt about that.
