21.30 train out of Huddersfield cancelled

Finally made it home.

Turned out it was exactly the problem I mentioned earlier in the thread: my train was running on time and fully staffed from Newcastle to Leeds, but then that crew got off and there was nobody to replace them, so the train was abandoned without serving the tiny villages of Huddersfield, Manchester and Liverpool.

TPE put me in a taxi but the driver got lost multiple times. Huddersfield to Liverpool via Bolton is a new route for me.

Issue is: each train-operator has its own drivers and train staff.
Obviously, drivers have to know the routes and driving an electric / dual-fuel / diesel unit, is different and demands different knowledge.
Even so - each company operates with the bare minimum staff.
In BR days - there was a "spread" roster, where drivers were on "spare" to take up the slack for illness and absence.
Thats not an option anymore.
Privatisation - benefit from "free competition": lower fares, competitive services, cleaner faster trains........bullschitt.
There is only one sensible answer:
Nationalise the lot and flip off the 100+ private companies sucking the life out of Britains railway.

@r00fie1 The Railway is an odd place these days… it should be a public service but it’s part private propped up by public money..

Now like any walk of life there’s Shysters trying to scramble to the top without thinking they can go back to the bottom as quick…

Transpennine have been running on the fly for many years. All so the directors and shareholders can make a profit. When Covid 1 started they got everything underwritten by HMG who then closed the pursestrings…

So now these Shysters are shouting it’s the fault of HMG there isn’t enough Traincrew, particularly in York and Manchester, when these are the ones who caused it!

I started logging the cancellations when I was trying to travel to work to the next big town.., I gave up, started driving and then moved jobs as I’d had enough.

School night In August?
There was a good programme on the problem with trains the other week that was presented by Ben Elton. It highlighted Huddersfield as a particular black spot. Real shame for the fans, particularly as the game kicks off earlier.

TPE are a laughing stock.
