12 Days to go / 14 First team players

We have to spend it on players that can gain value.

Instead of sinking our capital in liabilities, players with little to no sell on value and huge wages, we need to invest it in assets, that can grow and give us a return.

I'm totally behind us signing 23 year olds with talent instead of 28 year olds who have peaked
I'm still all for the club being pragmatic in its approach. I know Indeedido and others have supported the idea of us spending big to bring in the likes of Gyokeres, but we should be looking at bringing in 3 or 4 players for a combined fee of £15m, not one player for £15m.

18 FIRST TEAM PLAYERS - including Steffen, Smith, Bilongo & Boyd-Munce

Steffen/Roberts

McNair/Dijksteel
Fry/Lenihan
DEFENDER/Bilongo

Jones/Smith
Crooks/MIDFIELDER
Tavernier/Howson
McGree/Boyd-Munce
Giles/Bola

STRIKER/Watmore
STRIKER/Coburn

4 more and we're cooking on gas!

GREAVES
CHOUDHURY
ARMSTRONG
MUNIZ

My concern is will we be able to shift Akpom, Uche and Hall? There's been no talk of any links from other clubs for them. Yes we will be selling Spence but I have a feeling a lot will depend on getting them off the books as well.

not sure we can class Bilongo as a first teamer yet, even Boyd-Munce is borderline

They'll be released, i can't see us commading fee's. We may even pay them off to take a wage cut, or pay a % of their wage for their next contract. Dont think any of our incomings rest on getting shot of them.

Hall will go back to QPR, Ikpeazu to Wycombe or Scotland and Akpom abroad or some L1 based London side Charlton maybe.

from what I've seen, yes, but that's pre-season, he was playing level 7 less than a year ago. Massive jump to play level 2. Not impossible, but with just 10 U23 games under his belt it feels early.
Lots of players in the past have had no problems making the step up. If Wilder thinks he's capable he'll be in the squad.

That's a lot of wages to be paid up in one go though, I can't say I know the length of each of their contracts, but would be very disappointed if it comes to that.

Hall has one year left I've read he's on about 12k. Ikpeazu won't be on much but has 2 years left. Akpom has one year left and is on good wages. Probably cost 2.5m to pay those 3 up. Man we've done some terrible deals in the past and some of it fairly recently.

I would think Hall could go for free, and we pay 1/3rd of his wage
Ikpeazu, we'll be lucky to get any transfer fee, but we might avoid paying any wages.
Akpom, might not get a fee, might cost us 250k in wages out on loan.

Which is why we will never grow and be back in this position again next summer and the next summer ad infinitum.
If you have some decent players and the makings of a squad, and you have FFP scope, and you have a windfall and you have made a song and dance about your manager and Head of Football, then have a go for Christ's sake.
Revenue is up, wages low and amortisation very low.
If they don't go for quality now, it seems clear they never will.

I think the pragmatic approach is a spine of experience. Lenihan-Howson-CF and then surround with 23 year olds with talent.

Every day the club doesn't **** away loads of money on buying players in the middle of a five year contract I'm happy. Bargains and freebies!
And you will be watching ***** every year.
It is not about spending big, it is about spending big and getting value.
You don't have to buy a plank like Assombolonga or a ponce like Fletcher.

Spend lots of money on brilliant players! Genius! Why didn't we think of that before! Much better than our previous plans to spend loads of money on ***** players.
